    Hi Guys,

As you well know I´m not a native speaker so I will try to express myself the best I can do, but I do apologize for "molesting" your language

The problem is not putting air in to it...is putting air without the MAF to cut fuel injection...

I Still use stock turbo on my car and at some time I feelt that I needed more air in order to make a better combustion of my stage3+ Remap and for that reason have more performance.

Thats when I made exacty the same thing as bennyIIA

When you send much more air into it, this V value will raise above that value and the ECU will cut the fuel from your car . The bypass solution was an attempt to skip some of the air from the MAF directly in to the turbo so that it could not reach the MAF Sensor.

    Aditional solutions:
1 - unpluge the maf sensor - The ECU will receive default data and the car will work perfectely - apart from the fact that when you turn your engine one, it will take about 10sec till you have a full response from the acelerator ) (as Hamish 71 said )

2 - IRB Developments - Diesel Tuning and More (already suggested by bennyIIA) (Ian got there first. Congratulations We, at td5inside, have a huge respect for Ian´s work and know that this was not an easy achieve. We must give him all the credits. We will not copy his product. From this moment when we need the clever box we will buy it from him)

On VNT turbo the problem is the same. We look in to get more air in to the turbo. But when we do that the MAF is simply not ready and cuts fuel injection...and, it´s the same story all over again.

For the record, I still think that with stock turbo and stock air system we can get a very good and reliable compromisse...

    Regards

P.S. Again sorry for my apoorling english

I have another question though. According to RAVE, the MAF does, well, what is says below. If ALL it does is EGR, and I have removed EGR entirely....why do I still need it?

    .....................

As Hamish says if all the MAF does is control the EGR and we've all removed the EGR why not simply remove the MAF

The MAF also has a strong bearing on Auto Transmission Control.

Thats not a bad question. Would have been better before I bought a new MAF earlier this year.
Seriously looking at Bennys cut of the air box. Is it just me or does a snorkel actually seem to impeed air flow over standard??

Performance without a MAF is often listless in lower RPM and can cause flat spots on acceleration at wider throttle settings...

MAF also provides better control of the A/F

Here are some photos (still needs a little tidying up but you get the idea)

On road i all so run a K&N filter....

I had this mod about 3 or 4yrs ago, this mod altered the low down torque of my TD5 so much I had to have it taken out and the standard airbox re-fitted, at the time I had a B Davis full noise chip but no larger intercooler or EGR by-pass or silicon hoses.

I do alot of towing and having a manual Disco, I need lots of low down torque for taking off when I have the camper on, for this reason I am reluctant to do this mod again.

From my experience, have too much air can make an engine preform worse rather than better, so how do you find a balance

For the record, my Disco TD5 Manual now has a larger intercooler, silicon hoses, EGR by-pass, medium chip/re-map, 3" exhaust, TD5Alive boost box running 18 psi boost, this is better than the BD chip but not by much, although I haven't run the car set up like this with the BD chip & MSB ECU, only with the NNN ECU and re-map.

I really need a bit more torque and power, it still struggles a bit on hills with the camper on.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.
