Question Strange problem with Defender TD5

    Hi All,
I have a 2000 Defender TD5 with a strange problem that I am hoping someone can suggest a solution for. I bought the vehicle as a non goer and have just installed a reconditioned engine. The engine starts and runs well but as soon as anyone sits on the driver seat the engine stops. Strange but it definately happens. I have tested the wiring harness and all the wires into the ECU and all test OK. Fitted new Crank Angle Sensor and new fuel pump. Pump pressures test perfect. Engine starts perfectly every time but as soon as weight goes on the driver seat the engine stops. I think it has to be a wiring fault somewhere but the question is where. When the weight goes on the seat the "check engine" and "glo-plug" lights flicker. Plug in the Hawkeye and all reads OK until weight goes on the seat and it then looses the data connection.I have tried pressing down on the ECU and wriggling the cables but the engine runs perfectly until weight goes on the seat then it stops. Any suggestions welcome please.

dropping the earth on the ECU or one of the under seat relays.

some people being lazy use the seat mounting bolt to make the earth because its easier than the proper one.

    A sensitive seat

My guess is that the sensor in the seat/seat belt wear system is wired back to front, or the wiring has been corrupted.

Isn't it the case that if a passenger is not wearing their seat belt that there is a warning or lockout that comes into play to stop the vehicle?

    Strange Problem with DEFENDER TD5

Thanks for the suggestions. I suspected an earth problem.
What I intend doing tonight is to run a new earth from the battery direct to the ECU earth point and then to the earth point in the seat box directly below the seat and see if that has any effect.
The UCU earth on my TD5 is actually anchored on the chassis directly below the seat but I note from responses that it should be on the gearbox. Does anyone know exactly where on the gear box it is supposed to be located.

Any threaded hole or bolt, the electrons won't care.
