    A little tranny help please

    Hi All,

I have a Disco 2 V8 auto and have developed a "chirping" noise while accelerating slowly, put your foot down and it disappears. What's your thoughts? It only happens during driving, cant duplicate it stationary. Also, where the hell is the transmission dipstick (at the risk of being called a dipstick), cant find anything in the owners manual and cant see anything under the bonnet. Thanks all.

Chirping noise, CHECK THE FRONT TAILSHAFT DOUBLE CARDAN JOINT, DO IT NOW!!!!!!

There is no dipstick, at the front edge of the oil pan is a 8mm allen key plug, engine idling with warm trans in park it should be just running out when plug is removed.

Thanks Justinc, I just finished the GWN trek and used it as a support vehicle, it got a pretty good hammering so I will check it out ASAP. Thanks much for your quick reply, I dont feel so bad about not finding the dipstick now...... Cheers, Keith

Don't check the front propshaft ASAP, do it sooner! If the double cardan joint fails (and they do) it will make a huge mess.
