    Dual Batteries

    Noob question alert!

I can find plenty of articles in how Dual Battery setups work, but I don't know and cannot find what is the purpose of having a dual battery.

    Can someone explain?

stand in the pouring rain while waiting for road service due to a flat battery, and you will know one of the answers to this question.

Some use the second battery to run a fridge, etc., as if they did this from the main battery they would probably have a flat battery when they wanted to start the car.

    What John above said....

a second battery to run fridge/lights/laptop/tv/kettle/radio etc while the cars not running, and then you still have the main one for starting and running the car.

They both then charge while the car is running.

    hmmmmmmm

Dual battery setups allow you to isolate the Starter battery and use the Auxillary (second battery) to operate camping equipment/fridges/lighting,etc. without affecting the charge in the starter battery, so even if the aux. battery goes flat you still have a full charge in your starter battery to start the vehicle with, Regards Frank.
