Steve, have you looked into the Land Rover D2 Weight distribution towbar package part number RAA527? From what I understand it is suitable for both coil sprung and air sprung D2's. Wow, this is a hot topic for me at the moment, information over load. I am ordering my new van next week. A 23ft Retreat Daydream with an ATM of 2490kg's. I am convinced that I need to use a WDH even with the van properly loaded and with the 10% on the ball. I also understand that even though my D2a TD5 manual is a coiler, my towbar is not designed for the upward forces created by the WDH. My question is, is the RAA527 kit the one I need to safely and legally tow my van with a WDH attatched? I am also planning on fitting some polyair bags in the rear springs also. Grumndriva and Chappy54 and others feel free to comment. PS: I do not know if the RAA527 kit is even still available, I am going to ring LR tomorrow to find out.
    Regards
    Robbo.

our ride is still very good especially after the springs settle in. I have put ours into some good cornering not as fast as a car but it would be nearly up there and the car feal rock solid, i think the ACE takes care of this, even off road the car has been no different to airbags, i must admit i do miss the ability to raise the bum in some instances, another thing you may be able to look at is springs at normal ride hieght and a set of pollies inside the springs, it would be a little more but would be best of both worlds.

Thanks Robbo I will ring them myself to find out whether they are still available. Thanks Mark but my problem is I dont have the ACE in mine, lol yeah its good to be able to lift the rear up with the push of a button. I am keen on pollies as well as springs.

Went to Hunter L/R yesterday (never to return) to find out about the RAA527 kit. The bloke looked on the computer and yes they are available but they cost $1009 + gst. I think I will check out what Hayman Reece has to offer.

I have pulled an 1800kg single axle van for the last 10 years with a D2 and SLS. The first 5 years no WDH and the last 5 with a WDH. It sat pretty well without the WDH but with WDH there is a lot more front brake action and better steering particularly on dirt roads so I am a believer. That all said I was in a bit of a rush about 3 weeks ago when I put the van on and could not be bothered setting it all up again for the WDH. The hitch had been used with another car and I just did not have the time to be bothered with it. I went on the back roads about 4hrs of tight twisting narrow roads with potholes and gravel sections. I could tell I did not have the WDH but it was not all bad. Towing this van with the D2 has been fantastic none of the stability issues mentioned above.

I am just going on gut instinct but I recon the standard hitch receiver looks pretty solid to me and would not be in any rush to replace it. Just coz LR have not tested it with a WDH means they just want to make it clear that they are not liable for anything that may go wrong, not that there is a reason for it to go wrong!

This was a while ago and if my memory serves me it was Tombie that advised that there was the potential for chassis twist using the HR WDH in the LR towbar and highly recomended to change over to the HR towbar.

As i say i think it was Tombie i can not be 100% but i do remember it was someone that knows what he was talking about
