The ECU goes to "normal " at 80C signal from the ECU temp sensor.
You will have no problem in QLD with 82C except on cold winter mornings which you can get there.
I had an 82C but changed back to 88C as I was concerned that in winter it may not go over 80c on the sensor.
Someone on here reported rigging up a switch to fool the ECU by having the sensor report 300 Ohms via a resistor. If you were that keen you could run a 74C with that mod.
BUT I am sure you realise that the temp should not rise from the thermostsat temp significantly (certainly not on the gauge) if the cooling system is in good nick, and a cool thermostat gives you only an extra minute or so if the car starts to overheat.
