    Alternate engines for 01 D2 v8 petrol?

    Hi all...
A friend of mine is tired of all the problems he's having with the v8 in his 02 disco (now its a head gasket) and wanted me to ask the gurus (you guys) has anyone put a holden or chev or other in as a replacement? If so:
    what did it cost?
    what size?
    adaptor plates? (where)
this and any additional info would be much appreciated
    Thanks

Forget the other engines, just get top hat liners fitted in a 4.6. Or buy a TD5.

Yep, as bee utey said, I had a GMH powered and not much chop and resale is a shocker.
Get the 4.0 stroked, even to a 4.9L with top hats etc, some better tuning via motec or Haltech and keep it well cooled and you will not look back.
    I would estimate $7-10K.

I know its only a small increase but it will make an amazing difference, probably as much as the rest of the running can take.
Fit a low coolant alarm and tranny cooler at same time.

If I was going to interchange to another brand, wait a moment while I don flame proof suit, I's go a complete engine/gbox/tfr from a V8 cruiser.

Rebuild 4.7 to produce some decent power. From experience 600-800HP is viable, but keeping it down to 600 keep revs to 14000.

Makes perfect sense ---for a race car.

I wouldn't limit it to a race setup!

The LS7 has 330lb/ft at 1000 rpm! (thats about 70lb/ft more than the 4.0RV8 at peak!) rising to 470lb/ft at 4800, and even about 370lb/ft at the limiter

The Tremec can be had in all number of ratios and shifter positions, and the LT is already there, and capable of running it.

Would be a pretty awesome set up!

Guess it would be fun especially at the lights when you drag a skyline.
Would the running gear and especially brakes be up to the job though.

We have 5 SS 6L utes for work cars so can vouch for their power and Torque, I do believe they are probably too powerful for this particular application.
The 4.6 puts it under strain and they are not exactly a powerhouse.

jeez ya hear so much claptrap here sometimes......the guys looking for a realtime good replacement motor and look what you guys suggest......dreamin......if you want to replace your V8 with the worlds most well known, possibly the most reliable and honest V8 ever built why not put a bog standard 350 chev in it? you can make it breathe nicely cheaply and sound nice cheaply. simple adaptor plate conversion.
