For a turbo-diesel, a catch can will probably only remove 10-30% or the mass of oil mist - unless it is enormous. A Provent will remove ~80-90% with the standard element.

So there is no comparison between a catch can and a ccv Filter.

However Fleetgard and others do make alternatives to the Provent.

If you mean the fleetgard, I am not as familiar with them. The filter media is quite different but should work well. I believe they don't have relief valves in the housing (but maybe they do now) - so if using them in a closed system you may need to add one.

Donaldson may make one by now.

Haldex make a system called "alfdex", which is a rotating separator used on heavy vehicles (volvo trucks etc). However they need to be driven by compressed air and may be difficult to adapt. IME inferior to a filter.

Catch Tanks/cans when used in racing, are ment to Catch oil/fluides in the event of say an engine failure. The catch tanks that super cheap sell are too small, they need to hold about 2 litres.

I have the Fleetguard info here at work. Will send it to home as I don't have net access to the forum from here
Will post it up later tonight.

How many of you that have fitted ProVents to their TD5's have gone to the trouble of plumbing the oil return back into the turbo drain hose assembly? I have had my provent fitted for about 2000km's and the filter element is just on the point of saturation. I have a piece of clear hose fitted to the bottom of the provent with the check valve then to a steel plug that is held in place by its fit in the hose and a cable tie. I have had no oil in this tube as yet.
    Thoughts?

Mine just loops down than back up. Just so I can see whats in the tube. so far, about 10cc. Will drain it at next oil change. My plan is to fit a small bottle to the end.
