    1997 Disco I V8i Fog Light Switch

    Here's an interesting one I'm currently struggling with;

I bought a factory rear fog light dashboard switch to connect to my aftermarket front spotlights, although the problem I have is when pushing the switch the spots come on but, when I release the switch it disengages again. Front spots stay on for as long as hold my finger on the switch.

Now the first thing I tried was to swap my existing rear fog light switch (connected to rear fog lights - which works fine) to activate the front lights and it does the same thing. And when I move the new switch onto the rear lights it works fine i.e. no need to hold finger down - so theres obviously nothing wrong with either of the switches themselves.

Now the other wierd part of this is that this is actually the second factory rear fog switch Í've tried to connect to the front spots. The first worked fine for a few months until the little spring inside snapped, hence purchase of second switch.
    Any ideas?

Rear fog lamps had a ratchet on/ off relay, when ign key was switched off, the rear fog lamps were cancelled until the button is pushed again. Front fog lamp switch is a push on, push off type, so you need to get another one of these, not a rear one. I hope you are using relay/s with the driving lamps?

Thanks JC - yes relays are used and fuses etc. its a professional wiring loom and I've had the lights for 2 years on a Supercheap switch.

Ah righto yes actually I did noticed that the key needed to be turned to ign II for the rear fog lights to come on, how can I replicate this for the other switch? Faling getting a specific front fog switch (I didn't know the D1 came with factory front spots) I assume I could replace my spot relay with a ratchet/cam type?

I'm sure they are available, I'll look into it, actually Scouse will know, and probably have a part number for you, too.

Gee, thanks JC.........I'll see what I can find out.

You might be better off getting a regular latching switch. A latching driving light switch is available for the P38 & I looked up one for a D2 today.

Great help thanks JC and Scouse - you guys really know your stuff, I appreciate it. Theres a Land Rover shop up the Sunshine Coast here in QLD, I'll ask them for a latch on/off type switch.
    Thanks again.

Get a cruise control switch, pop the cover off the light one and fit to the other switch.

You need to use a locking type switch OR fit flip flop or latching relays.

    Method 1 is easier!!!

It looks like that's the only way still, or use the front fog light switch as JC suggested. We used to fit the CC switch when the cars were new but I thought LR might have had an aux. switch made like they did for the RR & D2.

AMR3752 is the cruise control switch.
AMR4138 is the front fog light switch.
    LR have both available.

I believe the Front and Rear Fog switches are the same except the symbol on it is slightly different. I had a Fog switch to run my spot lights and has worked fine for about 7 years. I fiddled around with the pins on the switch and in conjuntion with the rear fog switch was able to wire it up correctly.
recently had to pull the dash apart to fix the 'SPIDER' and now can't remember where the wires go. When I did the install of the lights I could not get a plug that went into the switch so just pushed some small terminals onto the switch pins(Nice tight fit but not the best I know). The Haynes manual shows the wiring diagram for the rear fog but some of the wire colours do not match the Haynes!!!
Plan B is to play with the switch again as if I am starting over again. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully get it wired up again by the weekend.

    Cheers Luke

    G'day Luke

I have 3 wires coming from my spot light wiring loom. The black negative goes onto pin 1, the white (switch on wire) goes onto switch pin 4, and a red wire goes onto pin 5. All 3 of these go into the relay with a 4th wire that I've connected to my headlight circuit, which means I have to have my headlights on in order for the spots to come on.

Pin 2 is used to light up the green led although I haven't wired this up yet, but, will do when I get the right switch.

Pin 3 is not used for anything and doesn't even have any connectors within the switch itself.

    Hope this helps.

p.s. Luke, the symbols on the rear and forward fog lights are VERY slightly different, the little squiggle, 3 short lines and the light symbol which all light up green are SLIGHTLY thicker on the rear switch.
