Check with Bearman over in the Isuzu Landy section. Got mine from him a couple years ago.
I heard rumor from a couple shops here in the States that a shop in Australia is making a tapered thrust bearing upgrade kit for the LT95 to replace the stock needle bearings. My transfer case killed itself and if possible, I'd like to upgrade while I'm in there. Any help pointing me towards a source for this kit would be much appreciated!

these were being made decades ago, not sure if they are in production at all. If they can be found new i think they were listed at around $3000aus. new. Secondhand they can be had (if found) for between $500 and $1000.![]()
This was a development for the ADF, who went mad on them for a while then sort of gave up; there are some advantages and some disadvantages. In short it’s just not worth it, nor is it a solution for collapsed needle bearings, But for thrust washers.
Mine was done by AMV, Ringwood, Melbourne about fifteen years ago. They may know where to get the kits.
Ritter automotive in Burwood Melbourne(03 98343500) made a taper roller kit back in the day.It was superior IMO to the kit supplied to the military by Landrover. The intermediate shaft on the Landrover kit was too small in diameter, and i've seen a few bent shafts from side loadings.
If dimensions were available a machinest could replicate the Ritter unit,by boring out standard gears and make the shaft etc relatively cheaply.
Tend to agree with 85county on the worth of these, although I would like to see needle roller thrust bearings replace the bronze thrust washers on both sides of the fast spinning low range gear.
Wagoo.
I appreciate all the help and PMs I've gotten about this. $3000 is just about what it'd cost me to get a rebuilt R380 and LT230 shipped over from Ashcroft in England. Not sure the intermediate shaft getting tapered bearings is equivalent. New replacement stock parts total about 250 GBP so I think thats the route I'll end up going.
Again, thanks for the help!
The LT230 transfercase is superior to the LT95, and there are more aftermarket options available for them, such as overdrives, crawler boxes or deeper low range gear sets etc.The later R 380s aren't a bad box, but there is only so much they can do with a box with a shaft pitch of 77mm vs 95mm for the LT95. For local tech assistance it might be worth checking the Rover forum on pirate4x4.com
Wagoo.
Isnt it the Distance between the center line of the Layshaft and the center line of the mainshaft ? (is this what you mean when you say "shaft pitch" ?)
