    4.6 oil filter

    Is it correct that the 4.6 engine can use a Z9 Ryco filter instead of the original. Does this assist with oil cooling by allowing more oil in the system and what is the best oil for a 4.6 ie. brand. I always use Castrol but not sure with a petrol engine this is the first i have owned in a long time.

    Yes, the Z9 will screw on. I'm told it may hit the diff under some circustances but I haven't tried it.

    The Ryco equivalent to the Land Rover ERR3340 filter is the Z89A.

    I use Penrith HPR Gas. Is it any good? I don't know. I don't have any idea of how to pick a good oil. I just use name brands. Oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild.

    If you want a better filter Baldwin/Zinga/Stauff have an equivalent to the short filter. Also has a bypass (around 18psi by memory) and choose 10 to 25micron instead of 125micron for a paper Z9 or equivalent.

    Oils: Penrite HPR30 for summer use, HPR15 for winter. I have had an excellent run with Penrite over the last 25 years.

    Didn't see the oil question, Castrol is rebranded BP now so I would avoid. Penrite is good as said, haven't tried using different grades seasonally. Currently running Hi Tech as I can get it in 20lt drums for around $66-ea.

    Thanks everyone will go with the Penrite and stick to the original sized/length filter as i will be doing a lot of off roading its why i bought a Rangie i have owned Nissans and Discovery's but this just feels right
