Nothing ..... It was just a flooded motor .... That's why some of us were getting him to do a "dry start" via the "octane in a can"

Just to teach how to suck eggs, I always place my lifters in a convenient tin full of clean oil, and get a big screwdriver and pump them up and down before putting them in the motor.
This will provide quite a bit of initial lube, although they may still rattle for a while.

Yup - definitely the flooding issue mentioned by Mike 90 and 400HPONGAS's lifters idea makes more sense as to what caused it than an ecu recalibration.
It's better to regret the things you've done than those you haven't!

Yup, did this myself and got virtually no rattle as I primed the engine by hand before getting into the ignition key - was hot work during the current heat wave in Sydney though! 24mm socket and a breaker bar + many crankshaft turns = very sweaty work. The followers needed a fair amount of pressure to pump up and down in the tin too.
