I bought a CAT battery in Melbourne and they replaced it under warranty after 12 months even though they could not prove whether or not it was faulty. From that perspective, I liked their warranty.

I have had the same issue. I have had two sets of these fail prematurely, and CAT basically said 'tough luck'
Both sets were used for cranking on a CAT genset, that CAT serviced, and CAT recommended these batteries. Needless to say, we stopped using these batteries after that....
I rang Westrac yesterday re a cranking battery for the Deafener, first bloke showed some interest but second bloke when I rang again just said "We only have batteries for Toyotas and Nissans".
With that level of knowledge available over the counter I don't think I'll bother, but I will go there today with dimensions and see what happens. Maybe I'll get someone who can think further than "Oh what a feeling".

I have a cat battery in defender its not agm how ever its been very good
460,
how old?
Well I've been in my new house three years and I put it in before that so its at least four years old maybe five its just the start battery and its not even the big boy 1000cca I think its only about 800/900cca I can check later for numbers ect
After my td5 sat for quite a few weeks (probably a couple of months actually) I had a flat cranking battery.
I had a brain fade and was thinking my solar which is connected to an aux bank would back charge the cranking battery through the isolator/charger - so when after a few days 'on charge' with no resulting change in voltage I decided the battery was dead and went and bought a replacement.
Of course the electrical system doesn't work the way I was thinking, and no charge from the solar was making its way back to the crank battery after all. Once I had it on the bench I borrowed a charger and charged up the old one and its still showing 12.8v having sat for 24 hours after charging.
The long and short of it is that I have current retail pricing for a 175-4370 from my local deal (William Adams) being $170.35 + GST ($187.39).
Up from $144.23 + GST ($158.65) 4.5 years ago.
Why go with an AGM battery for a cranking battery they are no good with heat and always encounter premature failure. covs do a century product 100 ah AGM for about $210. AGM batts are designed for storage and usage not a daily engine driver. Stick with lead acid it's cheaper and generally lasts longer. As far as getting a storage battery can't beat the AGM but beware they need to be stored almost on a fully auto charger otherwise you reduce the battery life from about 7 years to 3 years.
