Sizing should be about max 10% bigger than the nominal turbo outlet diameter. Any bigger for normal use can lead to turbo overspool and really doesn't give any performance increase as the main restriction is in the exhaust turbine housing.
However 3" does give it a nice off spool note though if run from the dump pipe :cool:

Sadly I dont have a Nanocom, I tried to buy one a while back but gave up due to their lack of interest and the funds got spent elsewhere, now that there seems to be some support for them I might look into buying one again.

As for exhaust, it is all standard apart from a de-cat front pipe.

Rubbish.
A smoking diesel isn't performance, it's pollution. Bad for everything from your health to the health of the engine itself and your neighbourly relations. Not to mention your wallet with all the unburnt diesel you're spewing out and the soot you're loading your oil up with.

By the time you see smoke on a modern diesel, your EGT's will be through the roof. If they're not, check your EGT probe, it's probably not reading right.

You show me one hot diesel that does not blow smoke.

I have seen both td v8 RR and 3.0 v6 d4's blowing smoke that are running stock ecu maps.

I think your EGT temp prob could be there.

I would be getting a good mandrel bent system with the power upgrades you are running, the stock system is like trying to **** through a drinking straw.

Well lets see.
None of the VW, Audi diesels or any others with a DPF, pretty much everything else that meets euro 4 or 5. The inside of their exhaust stays clean. Exactly how much smoke have you seen out the back of a TDV8 and 3.0 V6?

I'm not talking about the occasional cough from a carboned up motor, I'm talking about engines being tuned to smoke under full power.

Most production diesels don't run any richer than around 22:1 under full power.
You can run up to 18:1 if you're careful and respect the limits of what you're doing, but it's getting very hot. If your injection system is working well it'll burn clean, if not you be blowing smoke. This is where aftermarket chips come in. Modest power increases (20% or so) without any turbo modifications.

The smoke limit is 16:1, at this point it doesn't matter how good your injection system is, you'll be poking out black smoke. The richer you go, the hotter you get and the shorter the time gets before your pistons melt.

There are plenty of clowns running diesel cars at 16:1 and richer, but because their power-weight ratios are so good they can't hold full load for more than a few seconds. This is the only reason they don't turn their engines into molten scrap.
Likewise with the tractor pullers and 1/4 mile racers, they're running the hottest tune they can because they're up for a rebuild anyway.

But with a 4wd that has to deal with sand, mud, towing and hills it's easy to be at full power for minutes on end. If you try any of the shennanigans used by the hicks who love black smoke then your engine will sooner or later give you the finger.

and how much smoke do i see,, well alot cos i see it every day for a job ;) uv never been behind a freelander 2 td4 then,, they pump out the smoke, same as the 4.4 tdv8,, my td5 smoke a lil bit,, me mums FL2 smokes, and me old mans d3 smokes, so dose every other desiel land rover iv worked on,, same as toyotas, nissans, transet,,, and my god,, u should see the smoke come out of a 3L GU :D

Exactly,followed a 200 series up an entry ramp to the motorway yesterday & could hardly see it for smoke.I also notice following a D4 or RRsport,they will blow smoke at times,usually under hard acceleration.

Thats from the oil burning not overfueling:wasntme:. Pat
