Too much fuel mate![]()
G'day all,
Out of interest I would like to see the difference in what everyone is achieving with their EGTs coupled with how their vehicle has been modified or if it is still stock.
One of the reason I am interested is my EGT goes off the clock pretty easily and I am thinking about getting a milder map, but before doing so I would like to see how other peoples EGTs stack up.
So to be able to read something out of everyones results please add the following details.
Vehicle
Map
Intercooler
Turbo and normal max boost pressure if known
Position of probe
Max EGT under load and do you need to back off so it does not keep climbing
Cruising EGT at 100kph - boost pressure - OAT (outside air temp)
Other relevant contribution factors if applicable
Do you get a lot of smoke from the exhaust
110
BAS map for VNT
Non A/C Alisport intercooler
VNT- 18-19psi
Exit from manifold/entry into turbo
Easily gets to 750 and exceeds 800, need to monitor & back off under heavy load.
100 kph - 450-500 degrees - boost press 15-16psi - OAT 20-25 degrees C
Smokes quite a bit until boost increases with normal driving - continues smoking under wide open throttle through out the rev range whilst at max boost pressure

I can hit 700 quite easily in the D2a and all I've done is de EGR'd, decat and lost the centre muffler, other than that it's stock.
Cruising at 100 with no head wind or hills with convertor locked, about 380-450. Boost is probably around 0.8 - 1.1 bar.
My probe is at the manifold outlet right in front of the turbo.
Can't give you anymore figures than that as I'm just waiting on my Nanocom Evo turning up.
Cheers
Andrew
Sent from my backyard TeePee using smoke signals.
On my former 2004 D2 (with a remap and centre silencer removed) EGT regularly reached 650C when going uphill, fully loaded on very hot days (30C+).
i think id rather not no
21 psi, bigest map at the time, full strate exhurst,
boost at 100 is 11-12psi,
EGT -somewere between ****ing hot and stupedly ****ing hot![]()
If I'm towing, it will go to 750 fairly quickly, I normally just ease off the pedal and it will stablise or start to drop.
But when not towing it will crawl up fairly slowly, to around the mid to high 500s higher depending on the length of the hill or how steep it is.
Vehicle....D2
Map......... TD5Alive full map
Intercooler.... Bigger
Turbo and normal max boost pressure if known.. standard turbo 19psi + boost box
Position of probe..EGT BLANKING PLATE
Max EGT under load and do you need to back off so it does not keep climbing...TOWING 750+, Not towing 600, YES I back off
Cruising EGT at 100kph - boost pressure - OAT (outside air temp)... On a flat road and not under load, at 100kph, below 10psi regardless of temps
Other relevant contribution factors if applicable
Do you get a lot of smoke from the exhaust....yes, especially under load, if just excellerating not as much, but still more than I'd like.
Cheers Baz.

Thanks for the feed back and info all, it makes for some interesting reading.
Anyone else out there got a rough idea of what is going on inside their engine.
Sadly I did not have the boost & EGT indication fitted prior to fitting the VNT and new map. My old map was a Tombie jobbie, not exactly sure which map it was but I think it was something from Twisted Performance. It used to smoke a bit initially but cleared out pretty quickly once the boost came up, my new map smokes a hell of a lot more which does concern me a little.
I have a vnt with the biggest map bas does map on my defender (well i sold the 110 and now getting the 90 powered up with the parts from the 110)
And Yes it does smoke alot in just about every part of the rev range.
I loaded the map on before putting the VNT on just to see the difference and it was even smoking at idle![]()
I think most of tombie's work is done with Pete from Bell auto's.
But Remember when in comes to diesel power... No smoke No poke![]()
Thanks for that mate, it puts my mind at rest a bit, I was slightly concerned it might be one injector playing up or something along those lines causing the excess smoke and high EGTs.
Mine also slightly smokes at idle which was what was making me think it might have been a duff injector not closing properly, I spoke to Pete about it and he assured me he does not modify idle at all which also made me think there was a problem.
At least I feel a little better now hearing that someone else has the same problem.
Sadly I am the only person I know out here in Dubai with a VNT and BAS map, which is a bummer as I would be good to be able to compare it with another vehicle in a similar state of tune.
