    24 volt Winch Motor

Hi, was asked to look at a mates winch today that stopped working. It is a 16,500 lb 'No name' that has been on a tilt tray being abused for god only knows how long. The motor is completly burned out, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on 1) where to get a replacement, and 2) roughly how much they might be. The parts inside look similar to a lot of the photos I have seen of disassembled winches on this forum, but I have no idea if there will be anything around that would work. Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers - Gav.

If it is a good winch and the mechanical components are ok then you might consider getting the motor rewound. There are still a few people around that will service electrical motors used in industrial machinery.

Otherwise I'd say you would be looking at a replacement winch.

Thanks for that. The mechanicals are ok, but not great. All the gears are ok, and the bearings are a bit rumbly, but not too bad. Nothing a good clean and re grease wouldn't fix, but it has had a hard life. The fairlead is bent, and all the rollers are shagged if that gives you any idea. I might get a quote done for a rewind, and see if that works out cheaper than a new unit.
