Ah, those devilish poms. The keyway or should I say the gap between the keyway , the timing gear, the spacer, and the skew gear is also the oil feed for the timing chain (3.9) so its unlikely to wear much.Quote:

Does that mean it will never ever happen, I can confidentally say that it will never happen to a Chev or Ford camshaft dissy drive gear, come loose or wear on the keyway/shaft that is, not to mention all that crap hanging out in mid air in front of the cam bearing/journal and the dissy mounted in that flimsy timing cover, Regards Frank.Quote:

Everyone here is blaming the poor old Poms, but surely this is a heritage item from the BOP days.
Wouldn't all GM motors from around the early 60s have a similar system?
What about the Holden iron V6 which is a descendent of the BOP V8?
So if it was a crazy system it must be those crazy yanks, because a BOP cam fits an RV8.

That is exactly right Philip. The Rover V8 originated from a Buick, so it always makes me laugh when GM lovers slag it off, makes them look like twits indeed.

Resurrecting an old thread. For background I fitted new distributor drive gear to camshaft early this year along with new dizzy gear as originals had wear and were causing vibration in dizzy. "new" gear from UK. The other day, engine running just warming up and it-went "off". Sounded like timing had suddenly gone haywire. Pull distributor cap and rotor button show timing is now way off and I mean way off. First thought is jumped timing chain but its a new Cloyes true roller. Long story after looking at rocker movement checking harmonic balancer marks/TDC etc timing chain all good. Distributor all good. But when you crank engine over you can see the rotor button movement is erratic in places and skips. A teardown coming up timing cover off. But can only think non genuine gear has failed or woodruff key sheared. Not happy ...Quote:

Some of those Cloyes replacement timing gear sets have both cam wheel and the sprocket adjustable for valve timing. If you have one of those it MAY have slipped on either one of them.Quote:
