    Is there any value in.......

    Hi All,

I picked up a spare 3.5 ltre V8 which had Ramflo Air filters fitted (foam type filter) onto the twin Stromberg carburetors (175 CD2)

Motor was for parts only (heads, spare bolts etc) and so wasn't running when I picked it up.
One of the foam filters is a bit crumbly and I google searched and found the manufacturer Lynx Corporation in Erina NSW.

Looks like you can purchase new foams and most of the parts for them if necessary.

I will need to re drill back plates to suit my for bolt fittings on my carburetors but other than that would be fairly simple to install.

My question is ......has anyone fitted these to a 3.5 ltre V8 with std twin Stromberg carburetors (175 CD2) Are they any good .....do they improve air flow are their any issues with tuning carburetors and will the foam filters keep the dirt out.

I currently have the std rectangular filter boxes on my 1981 RRC which I want to at a later date fit up with twin snorkels, but in the meantime I thought these may improve fuel economy and improve engine performance.......while making the motor look faster (even when not running)

    Cheers

Foam filters are fine if you oil them.

My motor bike runs a foam fillter which is oiled and it needs cleaning after every day riding if the conditions are dusty and its only a 450cc, so it would be sucking less air then your rrc. Which can be a pain in arse

Dad and I also run ramflow filters on our mini (twin 1.5" su's) and on the packet it says the filters must be oiled if using out side the metro area and or in dusty conditions.

I would be cautious using them in an offroad vehicle - I had them on my jag until advised I should remove them as they allow very fine particles through that can polish the bores and glaze them.

Never verified it but went back to paper as a precaution.

    Hi Benny_11A / Garrycol,

    Thanks for your thoughts,

I think I will leave my setup as is and shoot an email off to Lynx Corporation and find out what replacement foams etc are worth to bring them back to usable condition (as I have them anyway) and if they recommend them for 4WD use.

While I don't do much real 4WD driving at this time I do travel on gravel roads from time to time and so fine dirt particles would be of a concern for me.

Their response to my query, plus your advise will help decide which way to go

    Cheers,

    Baggy
