    ECB Blackstuff pads...wow.

D2 V8. After a skim of my rotors new ECB black pads front and rear...never has she braked like this. Modulation is fantastic. Its more like driving my 10 Euro...I cant believe I had suffered standard pads and then Bendex OEM spec for so long. The ABS can easily be activated at 80kph on dry bitumen...

My brother fits them and told me how so many people have rung him afterwards saying what the hell did you do to my brakes!! And he is right. Despite what their web site says about being the same as stockers they are not...he reckons they brake better from cold than the Greenstuff from ECB which makes sense to me because usually when you want them they are cold.

    Cheers

    Great review Scott, thanks...

I've got the EBC Rotors and had Green pads and I hated them

Switched the pads to Bendix 4x4 and was quite happy...

I'm about to rip the rotors off and give them a quick machine, will get some EBC Black and give them a go...

No worries mate - you will love them. I noticed some light squeal from the pads, but it may be they have yet to bed in properly. Having said that it only happens and the beginning of very light braking and I can easily live with that given the modulation (which was really lacking from the factory) and sheer bite.

    Cheers

Hi Ozscott, does this improved performance equate with increased wear on the discs?Cheers, 130man.

Only risk with squeal will be the 3 amigos... Just check if your mate used anti rattle / anti squeal paste on the back of the pads...

Are you running factory rotors? Or did you go EBC for them too?

Thanks Tombie - they are DBA's. I have read on here before that squeal can cause the amigos, but I am yet to see them go off..I will let you know but I im pretty sure my brother's bloke didnt use it the goo.

130 man - no I dont think so mate - they are softer pads that self sacrifice rather than being hard and ripping through rotors and having to be warmed up before being effective and then having high power (and wear). To be honest though rotors last me a long long time (perhaps cause its a manual and I dont drive it hard in stop start conditions) and if they lasted me a third less time I wouldnt care...the braking is that good. I will see how they go towing my boat this weekend.

    Cheers

    Agree with Tombie.

I was put off EBC years ago by one of DBA's engineers who at the time said that they were terribly inconsistent batch to batch.

At that time (ten years ago) Ferodo were in front of everyone else in performance style non-asbestos compounds, but things change pretty quickly, EBC might be worth trying again.

Re squeal, Ferodo 4WD are shockers.

Any little bit of dust and they squeal like banshees, which means I'm putting up with squeal everyday.

We've always run Bendix 4WD on the Patrol and they don't make a noise, but appear more aggressive to the rotor although it's hard to compare as cast iron castings can vary considerable too.

Not sure what DBA use now for blanks, they may be casting their own, but back when I bought my rotors years ago they used Brembo cores machined here and they last a hell of a lot longer than the OE ones.

I fitted EBC black on my RRC about a year ago. BTW I have relatrively new front discs that are say 3years old but not lined.

I tow a 600KG trailer and they are totally unsuitable for hard braking.

The problem is that the anti squeal backing is too soft and under hard braking they just get compressed until the caliper plunger goes right through them.
I am less than impressed and will not buy again.
I am going to try Bendix 4wd as I have put Bendix Titanium on my Jazz and they are excellent.

EBC black are just the OEM replacements?

Put them on the front of the Caravelle with new rotors a month or so back, haven't noticed a significant improvement. Minor improvement, maybe.
