Thanks for the tip Peter:) It might be the cause but I didn't notice one on the old camshaft, which doesn't mean that it wasn't there!
I do remember Phillip A mentioning in one of his posts that camshaft knock isn't a big deal - I wonder if that is what it is?
I have had enough of the infernal thing for now but after my holiday to Melbourne, I may feel like stripping the blasted thing down again,

Sadly in my case, 84 rangie 4.4 leyland the odd knock onced warmed was a sleeve moving up and down, took the sump off pushed it back up and burred the alloy over a bit and off I'd go for a little while, did this a few time but eventually the sleeve came down too far and the ring popped over the edge and broke the top off the piston, in Cann River with the boat
