    Mud Tyres for Defender

    Hi all,

I'm in the market for new mud tyres for my defender 110. It has a 2 inch lift and the rims are 8 inches wide. What size can I fit in there? Will 285/75-16 fit okay?

Also, what brands are good? I'm not after anything top of the line, middle of the road is okay. I just want something that is good value for money.

    Cheers,

    Snail Bait.

It will depend on the offset of the rims, but 285/75's and 255/85' are both a good size for a Defender. You might have to adjust your lock stops though. Both the KM2's or the Bighorns work well, and another that a lot of people like are the Federal Couragia's.

i wouldn't touch the Federals if they were free. My mate bought a brand new set and about 20K km into them (rotated every 5K and pressures checked reg) he was on a desert trip with a few other vehicles when he had one fail.
the tread sort of delaminated. everyone was amused. By the time they were changing the FIFTH one the joke had worn thin and everyone was *&^%ed off. Stuffed the trip and cost him a fortune buying tyres here there and everywhere to get home. Not to mention stuffed rims trying to break the bead in the middle of no where.
Besides that Federal rep wasn't too helpfull when he returned.

Like every coin, there is another side. There are a lot of people that love them?Just like some love Coopers, and others have nothing but chipping and cracking problems.
Personally I will keep my Treps

    MTR Kevlar 235/85

My new tyres for my defender tray top are finally fitted .they were a good price ( in my opinion got them in the pay for 3 get 4 sale a while back.

    so far noisey
    slowed her a bit
and last but not least excellent traction

all the above i did expect
    btw
there was a roadian mt alongside the mtrs in the shop and the general feel and look leaves me thinking i have fitted the right ones.
I mean the Roadians had a very light wall -might be ok for playing in the mud on weekends or sand but in the bush they would stake pretty easy .
i dont want to bad mouth them as they are probably a good tyre
thats my bit so far -i have some pic that i will try to upload.

BFG 255x85 R16 KM2's every time for me... but thats just me!

If BFG did that size in the AT tread, that would be like having my cake and eating it for me!!
    Regards,
    Jon
