haha thanks Hamish, I'm no guru though.
I think that your thinking is along the right tracks though. I think the V8 and TD5 gearing are the same, but whatever is used to shift gears is different (valve body?), so if this could be corrected or swapped then it would be ready for the TD5. The 24 is already an EH tranmission, like the Discovery 2 transmissions.
The 24 has a larger pump which uses space and more space in it to fit the larger 1st and 2nd gear clutch plates, something which wont fit into an upgraded 22 which will only take the 3rd and 4th gear clutches. There are a heap of other upgrade differences internally though to make the 24 a stronger gearbox than even an upgraded 22. I would expect that to make the 24 mount onto the TD5 that fitting a TD5 bellhousing and then spacing it to suit would work - whether that is a spacer job or some fabrication with the bellhousing.... prob just a spacer. I haven't tried it though. You'd probably also want to fit a V8 torque converter, not the TD5 one which is too small, and whether fitting a V8 TC would be a mod to the TC or flex plate.... I dunno, hopefully just the flex plate, but I notice Ashcroft alter the TC.
For fitting I'm pretty sure (but once again guessing) that the ATF lines are all full diameter so will pull up and screw in, and the gearbox mounts will need a minor workover (20mm perhaps) at best or some fabrication at worst (mount bracket or body mount) based on looking at mine. Tailshafts... mine will be ok, but it might be a just have to see what happens job as tailshaft vary a lot in the slip. I'd expect the computer, XYZ switch etc to all change over.
These are all my thoughts, and I hope that somebody can do it.
I also thought that A&B were one of the global ZF gurus and also used by ZF in Germany for training their staff. I would have used them, but thats not to say anything about any others.
Cheers

If you want a ZF to withstand a tweaked TD5, then Lara in Belgium would be the person to talk to. He's done it and still doing it.
