What did you do on your Landy today?

Took the handbrake housing off the the 101 today as I am sick and tired of it leaking into the handbrake drum and not having a handbrake - what a stupid idea to have an oil shaft on the output shaft but does not stop the oil getting down the splines. Have previously done it and put sealant in which lasted all of 3 months before drip drip drip.

The handbrake shoes and drum were soaked - not sure what the oil throw out thingy is supposed to do but it doesn't work.

I will be degreasing the lot then using wax and oil remover before fulling the lot with Blue RTV sealant and putting it back together. I am going to use full on thread locker on the main output shaft nut - even though I previously used a new nyloc nut and light weight treadlocker and it was smothered in sealant, it was loose again :(.

I am putting new shoes and using a different drum so hopefully I will have a decent handbrake.

Just had the BFG Muds fitted up to the Disco 1 touring rims. These should do the job on the rough stuff better than the General Grabbers have, although I still have these on the alloys as road tyres.

Bought the muds on ebay for $246 each delivered and cost me $10 each for fitting and balancing. Got to be happy with that.

Glad it's gone, it's terribly tacky, particularly the one I was removing in that pic.
Rubber mat around the shifter is in, there's still a few bits on the drivers side and under the glove box.
I might make up some REAL wood pieces for when I'm feeling fancy :D
And my stereo is hooked to position two on the ignition, as such it resets every time I turn the car off.
Took me a while to work out why it kept changing :eek: :lol2:

I put my front tail shaft in today after replacing double cardian joint. Replaced the high/low detect switch while the shaft was out and now have Hill Decent Control again. Next jog is to replace the injector loom in a week or so and also the XYZ switch.
Got the CREB and Starcke tracks to do in a few weeks, want it working properly.

Started dismantling Rusty Bob from Bruny Island today, I came to the conclusion that I have a rather clever facsimile of a Land Rover --- a iron oxide shape, held together by some ageing paint and dented aluminium.

Decided that trying to unscrew any of the well rusted nuts and bolts is going to be a complete waste of time. I am going to drill into the end of the bolt head and snap the head away from the bolts shank.

Did manage to take off one of the sides of the top, doors and the windscreen. The horror story will be the seat box fittings and the bolts attaching the mudguards to the firewall.

'George' finally got a nicely-unmarked new set of rear mud flaps last weekend, which had been sitting on a shelf in the shed for months, to replace the ones ripped off in past bush adventures, after we sliced off the pop rivets with an angle grinder because they were too big to drill out. So, we should no longer leave a flying shower of gravel behind us.:cool:
This weekend the plan is for 'George' to get a belly full of fresh oil for the engine, transmission and diffs, in his regular 10,000km service, now that he's hit an impressive 335,000 kms. Filters for air, fuel and oil will also go in. So he should be pretty happy after that.
Then its time to start saving for the rear airbags, a new timing belt and a second fuel tank...etc

Fitted an EGT sensor and got 67% of the way through fitting up an on-board air system using the old a/c compressor.

Was out at Triumph Rover Spares and was told the price of wrecked Defenders has risen so much recently it is making life hard for them. So grabbed the a/c idler pulley before the price went up and got out of there :o
