Been there, done that...:D. Don't feel bad about it. Recently, after replacing the intercooler on the L322 (which requires the whole front of the car to be disassembled) I had just got everything back together when I realised I had forgotten to install the thermo fan... Had to pull most things back off to fit it. I too gave myself a good talking to after that...:DQuote:

replace the front main seal and fixed a coolant leak. service tommorow
Changed the Engine and front diff oils, front diff had quite a lot of silver paste attached to the magnet. Looks like new diff etc time. Oh well looks like L8's diff special is at just the right time, Ashcroft ATB and fitting/lapping and bearings will come in at under $600- (unlike the rear which was $600- + $275- for the extras).

Muppet this is what happens when people either wash it with dirty water or use a sponge that has crap in it. It is very common!
You will need a deep wax to fill the scratches back in.
Try Meguires NXT Tech wax or Colour X. NXT is a paste - so it is harder to apply but will last longer.
The only way to get rid of swirls cut into the surface (which was probably induced by a machine polisher used heavy handedly) is to cut it back finer and finer, perhaps even a polish with a really super fine wet and dry.
