Finished servicing the 2a. Fitted new points, retimed ignition, adjusted brakes. Giving it a good cleanup. Put the seat cushions back, and the RH floor. Fitted a new boot round the transfer lever. Refitted tailgate and readjusted the hinges.

Fitted new diffs to my D1 with 4.75 gears and Detroit locker on the rear and arb air locker for the front. Off to ARB tomorrow for the compressor and lines and switches. Now how to ask the boss for even more time off

Finished installing a new starter motor in my D1. Only took me 2 evenings (about 6 hours). Had to remove the exhaust drop pipe, heat shield & engine mount (then realised the heat shield is bolted to the engine mount, DOH).
Broke 2 allen keys getting the 2 bolts loose on the starter motor. Changed the starter motor & refitted the engine mount.
Today I had to get a couple of new exhaust gaskets. When I got home this evening I refitted the exhaust drop pipe and heat shield.
Job Done.
Now just have to wait for a couple of new shockies to turn up to replace a second broken one on the rear. Maybe tomorrows job.

Hi All
A short drive, (3/4 hour each way) in the country to get my Son's V8 Auto S1 Disco ready for a rego inspection.
Replace the squeaking wiper blades with new ones, a hand full of blown bulbs and changed over part of the rear seat belt, as his dog had chewed one of the buckles.
Parts were supplied by the legend himself, John Lobbon. Funny how his name rhymes with that English bloke from Sherwood forest !
Getting to the brake light bulb, was looking like a challenge at first, with the rear dickey seats being in the way.
But all that is needed, was a T30 to undo the two top mountings, that allows the seat back to drop down enough to get into the back of the light assembly, it was piece of cake in the end.
John now has asked me back to sort the same thing out with his brake lights tomorrow !
Cheers Arthur
Not much:
- Replaced the 4 tie rod ends,
- driver's door seal,
- carpet trims,
- straightened out the boot carpet,
- Rewired the tow bar electrics
- replaced steering column shroud (trying to get rid of graunching noise as you twirl the wheel. Didn't help)
- Investigated non functioning central locking
- Started measuring up for second battery, and compressor mount
And spent over an hour trying to fix my grease gun. POS
finally got around to checking properly if I had a buggered battery or starter motor.
Replaced battery, all good.
Picked up a spanner in anger for the first time in 25 years or so, changed the td5 fuel pressure regulator and injector harness. Unbelieveably the beast started when I was finished. Now to get the oil and grease off and put the bandaids on.

I managed to successfully reassemble and replace my 2a's starter motor after pulling it out and apart. It's not fixed, but still works well enough until I can have it off the road for longer.
