As it's due for rego this month I thought I should put the mud flaps back on, find out why the headlights isn't working, and get the tail light working.
Mudflaps: easy,
Headlight: power wire had come off the relay.
Tail light: No idea it's working at the moment

Well the day started easy enough, down to pick a part to find a replacement horn as the Low tone had failed. Success!
Got home replaced it and went to move the car, No joy just a click from the starter, try a few odds and ends, ended up pulling the starter dead dead dead:mad:.
Quick phone around , sourced a new Bosch unit from Repco, fitted and its never sounded better!
Found a small water leak from a plastic return hose as well for my troubles, so not a planned day but at least it broke down in the drive way :)
Oil and filters change
Parked George outside the daughter's house after we returned from the Drive 4 Life trip across the Simpson, which involved 56 vehicles and raised $59,000 for the Northcott Society for aids for people with disabilities, and considered the things which need fixing:
Siezed air con idler pulley caused us to remove the belt in the middle of the desert and drive without air con for about 2000 kms.
Heater leaking coolant into the driver's footwell was bypassed somewhere west of Boulia (no great loss).
Broken rubber coupling in the exhaust at the rear was tied together with cable ties.
Flat tyre chucked on the roof and damaged tyre replaced with spare.
Rear step spring broken - cable-tied.
Driver's headlight flopping after plastic socket snapped - cable tied.
Seems to be a bit of turbo blowback.
Good news is the big items - the rebuilt auto, new rockers and pushrods, timing belt and repaired radiator - all worked perfectly. The engine only needed one small coolant topup, one small oil topup and nil transmission oil in over 5000 kms between Brisbane and Alice including the worst sand dunes in the Simpson. Heavily loaded, it averaged 13.6 litres per 100 kms. The heaviest consumption of 16 l/100kms was between Alice and Mt Dare and the consumption then fell on the sand dunes.
Bad news is the interior is absolutely filthy and is going to need repeated cleaning, vacuuming and blowing out with the air compressor to get clean.
Once I sort out my pics I'll do a trip report. Had a great time.

Fitted a nice new ARB on board compressor and loom. Made a new switch plate for it and the locker switch under where the clock used to be (voltmeter now) - 2 switches if I end up with 2 lockers if I'm lucky. Hollowed out the old switch holder so it still slots into the space the same way, then made an aluminium plate with cutouts (extended height to fit the new switches), covered it with self adhesive 3mm foam. Just have to cut the foam to add switches.
ARB have a special on at the moment, where for the normal price of a locker, you get the compressor and a pump-up kit included in the price, worth $350 together so quite a saving. They are a nice pump too as with the built in mini tank (silver tube on top) and pressure switch, it will only run when air is moving.
Over last 2 days got my tyres swap over to my dynamic rims and today started out with a list but only 1 thing done.
Fitted a pair of radius arms with castor correction bushes and new bushes on the chassis end, discovered swivel pre-load needs to be done but thats another weekend job.
Car drives and feels more stable which i attribute to the new bushes and wider negative off set rims.
Changed the rear rotors and pads. Bought a few items getting ready to add an extra transmission cooler.

Finished installing my dual battery system and installed an Anderson connector under the rear bumper to charge the camper trailer battery whilst in transit.
Spent most of the day chucking stuff out of the Disco and then cleaning it. Man that desert dust gets in everywhere. While cleaning I reflected on how many great memories of trips are tied up with that vehicle.
