Three cans of fish oil liberally sprayed underneath, including in the chassis rails and on body mounts, left George smelling like a fish shop, but can only have helped to prevent rust.
Also managed to spray the granddaughters shoes when she walked past and then encouraged the younger grandson to smell his sister and make rude comments about fsh smells. Ha!
I took the exhaust manifold off yesterday and found a 3-4mm warp in the manifold (Td5). I drilled out the snapped stud and then drilled over size and helicoiled to standard. That was a peanut coconut moment drilling into the head!
But all went well and I replaced all studs with new ones.
Then replaced the little hose under the manifold as I've had a temporary one fitted for six months and I've been meaning to replace it anyway. Today I've got to go to Bunnings to get a 1/4" drill bit to drill and helicoil the rotor filter housing. I stripped those years ago and have been meaning to do those for a while  I'll also get a high speed burr and dewebb the manifold while it's off. I was going to do the rotor filter housing in place but I think I'll remove it and replace the water pump while I'm there. No reason to but I have a pump so seems like a good idea. The old pump will go into the touring spares box.
I want to replace the injector seals too. I have the parts but it's not coursing a problem so not sure if I should do that now or wait. Thoughts anyone?
Now just have to find away to get the clutch done. My driveways on a slope so can't use that and I don't fit completely in the garage. Hmmmmm. And I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it.
Do it Roadkill style and just do it in a car park somewhere with some mates!
When I was a bit younger we used to take our Toranas to Calder raceway in Melbourne. We got very good at replacing diffs in the car park so we could drive home. Happy times.
Installed "el cheapo" HID spotties that I bought ages ago for $70 or so. One works, one doesn't. It lights up but not as bright as other one, approx only 20-30% of good one. Oh well....
Carried out the 480,000 km service on the Td5 D2 today. Wish they made the fill plug for the transfer box a bit easier to get too.
Polished 'George'. He's now definitely a candidate for shiniest Defender on AULRO. It's about time I got him dirty.
Got the Off Road Systems drawer base bolted down, the aluminium drawer fitted and here it is with the top in place but not yet bolted down. Discovered having the 110 litre Long Ranger tank blocked access to the bottoms of the drawer bolts near the door but we were able to move them outboard and avoid the chassis rails so its all good. Next job will be to find an AGM battery which isn't too tall to fit in the compartment behind the drawer. This kit has the shorter drawer on the longer base with a rear compartment with lift off lid. Unit seems very well made.

I gave it a wash, took a photo as the sun was setting and posted that photo here.

(meanwhile my girlfriend found it all a bit amusing, laying on the grass taking photos. I do wonder what they must think of us)
