Re-terminated battery leads, to make it ready for a dual battery cable run.
Checked brake pads
Greased prop shafts
Installed rear ladder
And fix cruise control, yeah!
Discovered collapsed bush in rear ACE actuator...
Not a bad effort for a Sunday arvo.
Cheers
Ron
Bought it a new Fuel pump volume/suction control valve and a Faultmate to do a pump/injector relearn once fitted.
And that's me broke till pay day...
Down from PNG so being having a bit of a play with stuff while ordered away
Used an Ipad with a down loaded noise meter app, so highly unscientific.
Each test was 60 kmph in third , then 60 kmph in 4th.
Test 1 Standard Defender with everything turned off, (Radio,A/C, windows up.
38 db & 28 db, (3rd & 4th gear 60 kmph)
Test 2, NKGroup engine blanket
30 & 21 db
Test 3 Dynamat Hoodliner under the blanket
27 & 21 db
Test 4, Engine blanket & Hoodliner
27 & 21 db
So you can cut a fair bit of noise from the cab by one of these two approaches, together is better, but not by much. NKGroup works out quite expensive once freight gets involved so maybe Dynamat & Hoodliner under the bonnet would be the way to go.
Quietening the engine has now made the firewall the notable source of noise, so maybe next.
I then did some exhaust wrap to the first join, the gear box temp seems to have gone down quite dramatically, but the run to Bundaberg this w/e will be a better test. Whilst under there i see engine oil leaking from the Bell Housing and only 11000 km, so looks like an early service.
I managed to leave the cable for the camera in PNG, so so much for careful planning.

Very interesting noise results there Andy. The engine blanket seems to have made the biggest single improvement from your results. Might have to investigate that myself.
Only thing I've done this week is to buy a new set of jumper leads and put them in the drawers (after unloading all the bricks and firewood).
As Mick says, interesting.
Have you got a thread running on this at all, with a bit more info etc, it'd be nice to see how it all looks.
I'm especially interested in the exhaust wrap. I had a major issue with a hot box a few weeks ago.
I used the 25' * 2 inch tape and large stainless steel hose clamps, rather than metal cable ties. This did from the first exhaust join back to the firewall very nicely. I have the photos but not the cable so i will post them up next week.
With the TM4 monitoring engine & gear box temps, i am looking forward to a cooler gear box tomorrow when i drive to Bundaberg.
Additionally i have mounted the Waeco CFX50 on a shelf in lieu of the LH rear pax seat, and it fits very nicely. Also have mounted the Air Compressor under the driver seat. I have to remove the seat to use it, but that's fine.
Now have a lot more space in the rear cargo area.
