Hey mick I would personally go for the agm battery. They take a beating charge in about 3 hours last many years and less than the optima. For good deals go to covs and get the 105ah agm century battery. About $220 or $350 from most other battery retailers. For some reason this model is in high demand and has great pricing. Plus has option of post terminals or bolt on terminals.. Good luck .
Optima's down here are around $220-240-, that's quite a hike in price.
Thanks, yes, the price I quoted was for a 75ah Yellowtop - I think from memory the 31A model. I'm leaning towards an AGM. Thanks for the advice about the Century one. FIrst I have to run the cables I bought to the back and install the circuit breaker. After that I'll get serious about battery hunting.

Pulled the speedo out of the 2a for investigation. Found, as I expected, from the symptoms, that the aluminium cup was no longer secured to the needle shaft. Hopefully a drop of superglue has fixed that. Also, the bearing of the spindle in the input shaft was dry, a drop of WD-40 should have fixed that. Also found out why the alternator light and hi-beam lights were very faint - bulb holders had come out of the speedo and gauge cluster. And found the problem with the oil pressure light is that the sender appears to have failed (it is non-standard, fitting into a 1/8" BSP in a tee to the gauge. I'll have to find a replacement.

Replaced the O Rings in the fuel cooler on the D2.
Hopefully that's it for a while now. I think I finally have a non leaking Land Rover. ;)
This is the mob I get my batteries from:
Optima 34 RED TOP Battery 12 Volt NEW AGM 34 800CCA High Performance Start Power | eBay
Their service is really good and so are their prices, usually takes two days to get the battery after payment.
Got the t/case back in, all stitched up and the 130 back on the road. :D
