Not today, but over the weekend:

    Dual Battery and controller in
    Aux distribution fuse box in
Wiring run up to the dash for various switches/cb power
CB radio in and wired up
Air Compressor control wiring done, (need to find and fix all the leaks now )

Doesn't look like much when you write it down, still took all weekend though!

    Cheers,

    Tim

Found a coolant leak... after it came back from the dealer to get an oil leak fixed. One operation of the work was to remove / refit radiator. Coincidence?

Yesterday, having noted a crook spring bush on the back of the 2a while installing tiedowns, I looked close and spent most of the day replacing three out of the four bushes at the back of the rear springs. I have yet to let it down off the stands and do the final tightening.

Over the last few weeks the alternator has not been charging for a few minutes after starting, so on Tuesday I found a new replacement at an auto electrician in Dubbo - $150, which struck me as a bargain. I replaced it as well yesterday, but have not tested it, as when I disconnected the battery to fit it I decided to repaint the battery hold down, and it was not dry when I shut up shop last night.

I repaired the drivers side electric window 12V feed where it goes into the door from the bulkhead.

Last time it failed was about 3 years ago - at the time I bodged the repair in the bush with the things I had available at the time.

It took 3 years for the temporary fix to fail!!!

It went from the panel beater to a "Well known Sydney land rover specialist" for rectification of accident related issues listed as exhaust leak, O2 sensor faults, vibration in steering (which I know to be a dodgy ball joint) and SRS light (which I know is the rotary coupling).

Came back with a list a mile long of things wrong with it. Like needs rear brake pads and rotors.Interesting as not only is there a new set of rotors sitting on the front floor but it has new rotors and pads less than 3 months old. Front and rear tailshafts need new unis and front spline is worn. Hmmm, front is a woods shaft and is fine as it gets greased every 3 months and checked. This is the best one. Steering vibration is due to worn panhard bushes (possibly but more likely due to the ball joint since I stuck the go pro under there and filmed it), all radius arm bushes worn AND radius arm bush holes elongated (how they diagnose THAT without removal I don't know). This is for a set of QT corrected arms less than 3 years old. And finally a shot steering damper and drop arm joint. Now all arms and steering box were changed less than 2 years ago.

Oil leaks from all the usual places (hey aren't you a LR specialist?)

Exhaust manifold studs broken and leaking (isn't that why it's there?)

O2 sensors weren't looked at nor was the SRS light. But hey they were only bright fault lights on the dash.

It's getting picked up tomorrow and taken somewhere else. Can anyone recommend KLR as they would be the next closest specialist?

Yes, I don't live in Sydney any more but they were the only place I'd go when I did.

Well, after about twenty months of plying the Newell Highway making sure everyone has enough loo paper or pillows or whatever, I decided to spend some time at home, so it was time have a look at my poor old D2, which hasn't moved for around nine months. Fitted one of Carl's early twin battery cradles with the first of the Yellow Tops, put the manifold back on, turned the key.... turned the key..., oh, wait, the red light for the immobiliser is on, pressed the button, turned the key..Yay, she goes! Now it's time to put back all the stuff in the back where I swapped the 7 seat stuff with Tim, and drive him down to Adrian, where much will happen. So, that's it for him for a few months.
Also, fixed the door on the D1, so now I can get out without pulling the handle a hundred times. Stuck the headlining back up too. In the course of doing this, the SRS light came on... Oh well.
Spent some time figuring out how much of the good stuff on the D1 would go on the D2. Hmm, might be easier to put the TD5 in the D1! Not really. Maybe sell the lot ( D1 300, D2 TD5, RRC and Series III cab chassis ) and buy ONE CAR that works!!
Not true. The 300 TDi D1 is great, apart from the constantly flat batteries, which is my project once the D2 is out of the carport. Well, except that it's gutless. Got a timing belt kit and a few other things to fit to it. Looking for a new intercooler so I can fit it all when I have it apart.
Oh, and I put some new wiper inserts on the Fairmont. Seemed to be all it asked for.
