What did you do on your Landy today?

Yesterday I removed my blower unit as it was chirping and annoying my girlfriend, so I decided it was best to keep the peace :D
Drowned it in Inox, drained most of it, chucked it back in and now it's whisper quiet :cool: Now I just need to do the ICAT sensor and I'll just be chasing rattles again :bangin:

Calcuated fuel consumption in the 2a from here to Camden for the Expo and back.

Trip down 18.75 l/100km, trip back, 14.0. The difference? One click on the handbrake adjuster! Possibly taking it a bit easier on the way back as well, and sold a hundred kilos or so of bits, but I think the dragging handbrake was most of it.

Decided to tackle that crap cubby box lid fixing yesterday. Previously I'd drilled out where the bottom part of the hinge screws onto and put in short lengths of about 6 mm dowelling to give something good for the screws to get into.
So yesterday I did the same to the top being careful not to drill right through and out through the other side!:p
Managed that OK and glued some pieces of the same dowelling in then screwed it all back together. Feels much better now with no slack feeling.
I also put some short lengths of square dowelling along the sides to stop sideways movement when people use it as something to pull on when getting in the damn thing. :mad:
And removed entirely that useless catch and chucked it in the shed.
Next job is drive line.....maybe next week.

PS. Before gluing the dowels in I drilled a small hole through for the screws as this would allow excess glue to exit and not stop the dowel from sitting right down in it's hole.

Well yesterday I drilled 3 x 2" holes in my chassis, poked a long screwdriver into about 2" of thick built up crud. So using the holes I drilled, I inserted some 10mm steel rod and loosened as much crud as I possibly could on both rails, poked it out of the existing holes in front of the gbox x member, bent up a bit of 6mm rod and used it like a blade to scrape as much out as I could. Chunks were so big I had to break them up to get them out. They smelled and felt a little oily. Maybe someone in the distant past had poured old oil into the chassis to protect from rust. Prob why the chassis is in such good nik. Anyway I proceeded to hose the chassis out. I reckon I got a few kilos of dirt and muck out of it, including a few old wasp nests. With the weather here in Adelaide co operating atm the chassis should be dried out by now so ready to be wire brushed and painted by the week end....I hope. Gotta weld the holes that i cut closed. Then work out how to coat the inside with fishoil and hopefully preserve it for a few more years. Would love to galvanise it but can no longer afford it. Ok now to get to it I spose.

Just a s a thought Rod, you've got it on a rotissorie (S?), just cover up all the holes with tape and let the oil flow through from one end to the other. You just need to lift or lower it at one end to get it to flow.

Was looking at that and wondered if you had holes drilled to position it in/at varying angles.

Hi Chops, thanks for the helpful advice. The rotisserie only allows me to rotate the chassis not lift it. I have no lifting gear here at all so it will b difficult to raise or lower it. Its too damned heavy. I was thinking overnight that I could use my high lift jack if it still works to lift it on one end then remove one A frame and lower it down. Was gonna use an old bit of steel fuel line squashed on one end and spray inside the chassis with that. Hmm or a weed sprayer with an extended wand might do the job. Still thinking about how to's atm. Dont wanna hurt the back any more...:D. Definatly gotta paint first coz paint wont stick to fishoil. Been there, stuffed that up b4 :cool:

Now that you access holes why not weld a threaded BSP socket into the holes and put a brass plug in them so that you can clean it out again if you find the need.
