Driveway is full and looks like land rover heaven to me now. Prob gonna part out the 109 stage one isuzu 3.9 coz the chassis has some rust although ive not had a real good look at it yet but did see a rusty outrigger, and its been rolled gently, and the FFR , ARN 49 209, will get the centre diff repaired (i hope i can find parts) and get re regoed and driven around by me. It needs some other repairs like the brakes which arent working coz some kid lifted himself up, at a show, with the master cyl and broke the reservoir aparently. Im yet to have a really good look at both of the land rovers. Couple pics

And now the driveway looks like this

    Gotta love it.

So much work to do now. Maybe i can put the 3.9 into the s2a...but it wont have enough gear sticks...hmmmm

Seriously. You can’t part our any 3.9 Stage 1.

    Removed old gearbox oil filter

    R 380 oil ooler.jpgR380 thermo stat & oil filter 1.jpg

I removed my oil filter and fitted a new prototype design without any thermostat, hoses etc , those hoses , fittings and hose clips etc are a potential leaking places. Getting to one of the bolts was a pain without removing the LHS gearbox mount.

I had to cut the hose because i couldn't slide it off the hose tail.
This filter arrangement has the disadvantage that it only works when the thermostat is open and the oil hot. I removed the filter element from the blue filter body you can see in the picture, and it had some very fine steel particles in it, some so fine they were just like soot, similar to what you get off your magnet filter. I shows there are still particles in circulation despite the magnet in the bottom of the gearbox.

My original intent with this set up was to fit an oil cooler as well, but the GB in my car runs at ambient + 35- 40 deg, cruising at highway speeds, a so i can't see the need for a gear box cooler at the moment. Those who do a lot of heavy towing might feel the need.
I also changed the engine oil & filter, and adjusted the tappets, had a general look around underneath, and sprayed some fleece grease about. there's a bit of surface rust around the front axle & fittings. looking forward to to heading off the rainbow beach etc after new year.
    Merry Christmas and safe travels

Ok today i thought id go out to see why the headlights on the bush pig werent working too well. Surprise surprise, the PO has been at it again. His absolute and complete lack of knowlege and disregard for safety is amasing. The headlights were upside down. The only thing holding them in was the burnt wiring and the screws holding the clear protector lenses on the front. This man should not be allowed to own or even use tools or have a car. I think Snoopy knows more about cars than him. So now the hunt is on for two headlights, buckets with screws and wiring. Ive got a pair on some s3 gaurds i have spare. I think they will be the same. Would like to get h4 lights tho. Might have to wire up a couple relays to take the load off the headlight switch as well. Im not looking forward to finding out why the park lights dont work. I wonder what bodgy wiring im gonna find. Hes fitted led parkers and indicators at the front. At least the indicators work. Im glad i bought it cheap...

So i pulled the headlight buckets out and cut the wiring off the top. Removed the rubber grommet. I then fed the "new" wiring through the grommet and refitted it. Using parts of some spare s3 headlight buckets ive managed to put two good buckets together with 2 new h4 headlights. Just got to wire up two relays now for low and high beam and connect and refit headlights. Easy peasy...i hope...

So today i wired up the headlights. Fitted two relays and wired them to the headlight wiring. 1 relay for low beam one for high. 30 amp fused relays. Picked up power from starter motor positive battery wire. Fitted lights and buckets. Tested and working great. Now just gotta fix one tail light and number plate light then i can drive it at night. Will be good. Have to go out and adjust lights too.

Oh i fitted a horn as well. Toot toot

What was the story with the PO? I remember the the original bush pig driving around gawler as a kid and then once the army started selling off the 110s he got the perentie pretty soon after.

PO perentie got gbox probs. Then more probs with gbox coz vac hoses fitted incorrectly on diff lock. I bought both perentie and 109 st1 3.9 isuzu tray. I repaired the box coz there was nothing wrong with it. The front diff had broken the long axle. I fitted a new axle assy. Now im driving it around and fixing other things the PO stuffed up. The 109 im not sure what im doing with it. I think its got a blown rear salisbury diff and it has no fuel tank. Its a bit rough but still would be a great landy to fix up. Offers received on it if someone wants it, via PM.

So last night in the dark i started putting the bush pigs dash back together. Screwed the fuse box back on the firewall. The parkers stopped working again. So im fiddling with the fuse box and the lights are flickering on and off. I finally found the problem. The fuse holder was loose. So i squashed the terminals together and squeezed the fuse back in. Perfect. All lights working except rhr parker and no. plate light. Will fix them soonish. Refitted all the centre dash together. Refitted the steering column surrounds and steering centre cap. All good. Refitted the grille. Im happy. For now anyways.
I might try to get a proper ignition switch instead of the forklift switch its got on it now. No position for glow plugs and no acc position.
Need door lock barrels and keys too and a locker key.

The equivalent civilian 110 has no ACC position, but does have a glow position.

Today i sorted out the wiring mess at the rh tail light. Found several unused plugs. I found the tail light wire and then the plug it was missing from. Plugged it in. Now got both tail lights. Still no numberplate light. Took it apart. Rusted out. Got new one and mixed n matched the bits and got a light fitted but no power. Made jumper lead from rh tail light plug. All good. Now tested the 7 pin trailer plug. All good. Wish the PO hadnt cut the 12 pin nato plug off. Noted with my tester that tail lights were on all the time even tho the lights were off. Ok. Pulled the spare down to access the wiring clamp and removed the 7 pin plug. Tail light pin had constant power via a purple wire. Located correct wire and fitted it. Insulated and taped the rest of the wires and refitted the plug, wire clamp and raised the spare again. Retested everything. All good. Went out tonight and adjusted the head lights. Will fit trim rings and plastic covers tomorrow. I can drive the bush pig at night now. Still got no reverse lights. No biggie. Will get to them one day, and the diff lock light too...lol

    Cheers Rod
