I'm playing with my brand new fifty year old firewall today.

Looks like it might be a goer. Having a cuppa now, then back to the grinder.....

With assistance & advice from Blknight.aus, replaced all the fuel hose between the main tank & engine (except injection pump to lift pump return) bypassing the selector valves. Reconditioned lift pump fitted by himself. Fitted the new accelerator cable yesterday.

Dave's also supplied me an electric lift pump to be plumbed into the secondary tank. This way I will be able to use either tank, pump fuel from the secondary to the main as well, and as a bonus get rid of the tank selector valves, which frankly had been i) confusing as - 4 position knob, 3 way valve, one each for flow & return! and ii) possibly the source of air ingress to the fuel line which Dave felt was a main culprit in Beast's lack of starting ability.

Fitted new , machined, web relieved exhaust manifold to D2 TD5, most difficult part for me with my arthritic fingers? fitting that gasket @ flange of the turbo. oil drain to the sump, oh, @ the numerous nuts dropped , @ the broken studs drilled off centre, but despite my best efforts, I had a victory, the flamin' thing is finished @ actually works , [ BTW., anyone in Brisbane who has the same problem of broken manifold studs, @ drills off centre like me, there is a bloke called Craig, company name " threadtec", makes house calls. Google threadtec. good bloke , fellow 4WDer] Bob

    Today I:
Put the seat box tops back.
Removed the glow plugs, cleaned them all up, ditto the cable terminals, applied nickel anti-seize to the main threads & an electrically conductive lubricant / anti rust spray to the electrical connections (haven't found a supplier for Dave's Electrical Carbon Grease yet).
Decided I'd better sort the coolant water leak.
It looked like it was the smaller of the 2 hoses on the pump (outlet I assume?) so I undid the pipe clamp expecting a perished hose & a 5 minute cut-and-reclamp repair.
At least, I did until the hose came away in my hand with part of the fitting still inside!

So currently I've removed the fitting, cleaned it up as best I can with emery cloth around a drill bit & a file. My cunning plan is to silver solder a 3/8" copper pipe inside the fitting as a temporary repair so I can run the car until I can find a correct (or near enough - I suspect Enzed will have something) replacement fitting.
