What did you do on your Landy today?

Worked today on 'Fred' the 300 TDi Disco, spent a bit of time today making one clutch lever out of two.
The fulcrum clip was broken on the lever that had good pivot pins the other had crook pivot pins, so I sheared the top of the rivet off on both levers and punched the rivet remains out and then set about swapping the clip over.
I found a rivet in a tin of tractor finger mower parts to do the job, made a swage tool to set the rivet and which I'm pleased to say worked well.
Then modified the back of the repaired lever with a bit of flat welded to strengthen the fulcrum pivot point and sprayed a bit of black paint from a can over the whole lot to make it look all pretty, ( for the bloke in a wrecking yard sometime in the future ).

Finally got the Daihatsu stuff, kind of in place.
Now all I got to figure out is how to join the gearbox to the Nissan 720 all wheel drive transfer case.:(

This finding of bolts, etc is the trouble when building up engines and gearboxes from parts that have been sourced from all over the globe, most things arrive without the handful of bolts that used to hold them in place. :no2:

That's why we keep all milk plastic bottoms:confused: are you....

we took 2 door tops off today and threw them away but kept the washers and nuts in a milk container with, 'Door Top Nuts' written on it:D

works well around here..always keep the nuts and bolts so you now what you are looking for if a need to buy new;) or source second hand;)...and know where your closest 'nut and bolt' outlet is:D.. we have a great one close by:D

Things like diff centres usually come without their nuts, so I would then write on the milk bottle something like 'phantom nuts. :D

Replaced all the weathered and perished side and rear window seals on the hard top on my series three.
She should be right for another 38 years.

After spending a week driving around with a Honda generator and 25 amp battery charger in the back, I finally fixed my alternator.

'Fred' doesn't want to play, I turned the motor over yesterday arvo with the starter motor and without the glow plugs in.

After a long session winding it over, there is no oil appearing at the nipple where the oil line normally connects going up to the turbo.

So I am now about to put this posting under the thread, 300tdi horror stories.

Over the last week or so...
First replaced the Lucas IGN module and coil with one from BeeUtey, simpler to purchase a known, working one. (BOSCH '041)

That did'nt solve the problem, but I'd wanted one anyway for peace of mind.

Bought an exchange vacuum advance gizmo from that mob up in Queensland. Good price and service plus advice.

That did'nt solve the problem, but it was perforated, so needed to be done.

Replaced the fuel filter, 'cos I did'nt want to face the possibility of a dying fuel pump. (160,000km)

That did'nt solve the problem, but it ran noticeable better. Read, safe to drive up and down the street only...

Faced reality, and $99 later had the BOSCH pump. started the job that evening... 2 days later 'phoned a certain Gentleman Mechanic in SA, heeded his suggestions and an hour later fired the beast up. Still not the best...

Next am, my cheep timing light arrived, used it add a handful of advance... and drove it to work.

Now just need to use up the rotten petrol, which has been in there for several months..

Noticed a small water leak in the left top of my windscreen, during heavy rain recently. Just finished silicon sealing the top of the screen,externally, both sides, making sure the water from the gutters is directed to the glass of the screen, not the edge.Had to remove the A pillar trim, left side [ right side broken, courtesy of a tree branch. ] Hope it works, Bob.

Found a bloody oil leak buried below the exhaust manifold that needs fixing.

On the bright side I now have a rust proof chassis and the tyre side of my front mud flaps ante nice and black:)
