I changed the oil and 85% completed a set of rock sliders/tree bars for the Disco 1.
took out the egr sydtem today and replaced wit with an allrau plate and pipe. Almost wrecked the hole thing by using to small an allen key to get the exhaust bolts out. I stripped the bolt and than had to resort to cutting a slit with the hack saw blade and used an impact driver with a flat head bit to get the bolt out. The sigh of relief was heard a hundred K's away, I've been told. Next job will be bleeding clutch, then maybe exhaust manifold webbing and some time in the future I would like to clean the inlet manifold from all that black gunk. Looks like a lot of work though.![]()

Painted the new front recovery points black & fitted them on to my D2, will soon have enough cash to buy the CDL kit [sick of getting under the car] then I'll get the Bribie island pass. Slowly getting there, Bob

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Dropped the TD5 head into the engine reconditioning place to get crack tested,
checked for true and replace a broken manifold stud.
.
I replaced the starter motor solenoid on a Td5 Defender, which was quite easy in itself, however getting the top 15mm nut off the starter wasn't too fun.
After 17 combinations of various extensions i found in the shed i came up with this... not pretty but got the job done
Striaght down between the inlet manifold, bob's your uncle.
Turned the key on my engine rebuild!![]()
Finally installed the winch ,after putting it all together i found out i can't shot the bonnet, hence the location for the control box .All in all easy project .

If you can't fix it with a hammer , you got an electrical problem .......

Took 'Fred" the '96 300TDi man D1, up to the farm today and run it onto the servicing ramp.
I walked underneath and had a good look around the engine and transmission, have found three oil weeps, nothing serious as far as the amounts but will make a mess in time. The most worrying is at the rear of the engines sump, to stop that leak, the rear journal has to be dropped to replace the T shaped gaskets.
I am going to spray some degreaser about, and hose it down. Leave it for a while, then see if these leaks change at all.
The steering knuckles don't feel smooth when twisted, so they are now on the to do list, other than that, 'Fred' was checked out well.
