Got a muffler welded into the mid pipe yesterday. No more drone! Yay! Happy wife, happy life![]()
Ordered an Ark battery box with built-in 12v charger as part of a subscription deal for 4WD Action through 4WD Supacentre. Only $99, which is good when the boxes usually sell for about $140. Will be part of the dual battery system.
Oh, my synthetic winch cable is also in the mail and my Mantec rear wheel carrier and door stay are due to arrive from England on Friday.
Also have the UHF and aerial, extended seat runners, extended door opening bolts and electric brake controller.
Going to be a very busy first week of the school holidays at my place.
Now saving for drawers and a cargo barrier.![]()

A 16kg box containing the Mantec rear wheel carrier and rear door stay arrived by courier from England, so I stacked it next to the other items awaiting fitting, which include the winch cable, headlight covers, extended seat runners, extended door bolts, electric brake controller and UHF. Guess what I'm doing when school holidays start?
welded the drivers seat base back together, the complete front edge had fractured off and was sitting on the seat box below, even broke the bar off that clips into the runners.
Left the County for assessment at the other blokes insurer's panelbeater. Replaced by a Hertz current model Patrol that in many respects compares unfavourably with it - no ride improvement, in fact worse, uncomfortable seats, poor forward visibility (you can't see the front of the vehicle or the LH front corner, bonnet prevents you seeing close in front of you), can't see the instruments with the sun behind you; about the only improvements are quieter and less vibration. Oh! and the aircon does not work (known fault but accepted it as no choice).

Cleaned carbies, checked float levels, jets etc.
While manifolds and carbies off replaced all hydraulic lifters....hoping that will fix tappet issue.
Changed oil tonight...tomorrow will drop coolant, flush radiator and replace with new. Re Check all fittings, leads and fingers crossed she'll start first time.
Like Big Kev.....I'm excited

Went chasing parts for the 'Phantom', todays task was to find one more hub with all of the wheel studs still in situ.
Looked at a hub off a Series 2 SWB which had a brake drum still attached, but had one stud screw out on me when I took the wheel off.
The brake drum was rusted on badly so a sledge hammer and a block of pine wood soon sorted that and the brake drum looks like it will measure up ok as well.
Took the hub over to my workshop and gave it a thorough inspection, the thread where the stud screwed out from, look to be in good condition. So I set about removing a very seized nut from it's stud, clamping the stud with the soft jaws in the vice I tried a couple of times with the ring spanner to move it to no avail.
Next I took the stud and nut and laying the nut on it's flat on the anvil, I hit the topside flat with a heavy club hammer, repeating this for each of the six sides. A little more CRC and clamped the stud again with the soft jaws I was then able to unscrewed the nut.
Now with the nut free of the stud, I wire brushed the thread up so it look like new and fitted it back into the hub. I made sure that stud wouldn't move again by swaging it's end over properly.
The hub isn't perfect yet as the face where the driving member sits has a couple of dents that need turning out on a lathe and then after fitting with new or good second hand bearings it should be ready to install on the 'Phantom'.
.
Changed out rear propshaft donut, only to realise it is in fact my front u-joint that is destroyed, and causing the bad vibrations.
How do i get these damn front propshaft bolts off?
Beautified Rover just a little bit more.............
............thanks Dave.

My wheel cover has arrived, but I can't put it on until I fit the rear wheel carrier next week, while on holiday. Looking forward to it.
