Put him in for the first service, needs a rear main seal. I wonder if they would have spotted it if I hadn't reported it
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I actually haven't done much personally but have had quite a bit done prior to a remote trip next week.
New cranking battery fitted, new axles and drive flanges and a new set of BFGs all round. Other tyres (BFGs) had done approx. 80K and I would have kept them if not going remote as they had a good 3 mm tread left on.
May flog them off for a small consideration when I get back as they're in good nick. Or put them back on....
Now to finish getting everything ready to be packed later today and tomorrow ready for the "off" on Sunday.

The BIL (who understands electrickery) and I had a go at sorting out the spaghetti of wiring under the front passenger's seat which we inherited and have worsened, thanks to my ignorant wiring efforts. It's now looking much better - and everything is protected by a circuit breaker.
Afterwards, I loaded it up with 10 bags of goat poo to take home from the farm to improve the gardens. Another reason to own a Defender - you can load it up with XXXX!

Knocked up a rear step for the series 3 as I am sick of standing on the tow ball when trying to reach things in the back of the tub!
Hopefully it is not sticking out far enough to dong my shin on it!

    Cheers, Mick.

I forgot to mention that we discovered the auto electrician who installed the trailer brakes had pushed out a grommet on a rear hole in the battery box under the passenger seat, but then didn't bother re-installing the grommet, but ran the wires in the hole outside the grommet, which he left dangling on other wires.
This had created a great situation for the wire to rub through on the hole and cause a short. I'm not impressed, considering how much they charged to do the job - I won't be going back there.
So we did the job properly and now all the wires run through the grommet. We also cable tired the wires in place on top of the chassis rail, instead of where he had left them dangling down the side of the rail, ready to be ripped off.
Seriously, if I had wanted a bodgy job done I could have done it myself!

Fitted the Panasonic head unit that I raided out of my Sister's scrap yard bound VP Commodore to my Project ****box V8 D1. I bought that head unit many years ago for my first D1 for $400 odd and sold her it on to her. Was pleasing to steal it back for nothing!

This D1 has 6" speakers in spacers in the front doors and it sounds really good. Starting to like the V8 more and more every day over my Tdi.

Can't shift the VP though - The engine and tranny would be good for a re-power of something else.
