Can second the SuperCharge batteries Joel.

My last two survived 13 years and one complete and total discharge when the car was off the road for six months six years ago.

Only replaced a few months back with some calcium/calcium Delco's, and the old ones were still cranking ok but slowing.

Just finished changing my diff and transfer case oils. Also did a 10k tyre rotation to bring the spare back into use. Love good shed time on a Friday night

Finally got some sun yesterday so got the motor and gbox ready to pull out. This morning the wind was blowing hard but only got the engine lifter for today so pulled the engine put it inside the shed. Pulled the gbox n tfer case and put inside the shed. Then it started raining so tarped the chassis and went inside.

Degreased and pressure washed the 2a chassis today and underside of the tub which is leaning up against the wall of the house. 48 yrs of built up crud came offthe tub and exposed another problem for me, the 6 tub stiffeners made from galvenised steel that rest on the chassis, 4 of them are rusted out...badly . Now where can I get them? Will defender ones fit?

Yesterday made my regular trip into town (actually took my tandem trailer in to get a pink slip and pick up a new cutting edge for the tractor blade). The trailer passed, as I expected, but the second time I stopped the engine, it refused to turn over to restart.

While I had been a little concerned about the battery lasting the winter out, it had started without problems in a near frost in the morning, and started instantly the first time in town. I was worried that it might be the starter, but a jump start stopped me worrying about that! So leaving the engine running I had to go to a place I knew had a suitable battery.

Doing a service and a few other jobs on the 2a. Yesterday and day before got the car up on stands, changed the engine oil, serviced aircleaner, checked brake fluid having started by pressure cleaning underneath, twice, removing an estimated hundredweight of mud and cow manure. Replaced LH front hub seal, checked oils in front axle, checked ignition timing and points, replaced oil pressure switch, repaired broken wire on tacho lighting.

Today, removed handbrake and speedo drive housing. Found I did not have the seal I thought I did, and drove into town to get one (took the old one to SKF). Cleaned up and reassembled. Found that with the overdrive in place, it is impossible to get the screws in for the speedo drive. Removed output flange and handbrake again. Got the speedo drive secured eventually - this has to be one of the worst jobs on the vehicle, although it is not as bad without the overdrive. Got the handbrake and output flange back on, and decided it was time to start dinner.

Removed the salisbury rear diff and springs yesterday. Seperated the springs from diff. Drained the diff oil, nice n clean. Turned the chassis on its side and leaned it up against the house. Was gonna clean the underside today but got too lazy and decided to rest my aching foot and back. Chassis looks and sounds solid. Need to wirebrush the chassis and paint with red oxide killrust. With abrush. Cant afford the sand blast now.

Lads D2 decided starting was optional....

Home at 5.00 under the vehicle by 5:30.
Had the starter on the bench by 6:00 (got to love wobble bars) after a degrease
10 minutes to disassemble, fit new contacts, bolts and plunger (repair kits uk).
6:30 and it's all up and running again...

Did some re-plumbing of the Provent (removed the Depression valve and fitted a brass elbow as the provent has one built in and the factory one had failed...

So moved onto wiring the light bar I donated to him, fixed some of his less than elegant wiring to the rock lights (dry earth) and he's good to go!!!

Tomorrow morning I'll have it back to adjust the handbrake....

Too easy! Land Rovers really are easy to work on.

Maybe one day soon I'll be allowed to work on mine!
