    noise from clutch TD5 defender

Hi all been reading other threads, but none are like my issue, The clutch in my TD5 defender 130 makes a buzzing, groaning, noise when you ride it while taking off or changing gears, not all the time but 70% of the time, if your parking it can do it on second and not the next, there is no noise when fully depressed or fully out only seems to be when the friction materials are rubbing, clutch is working fine no slipping ect, and has only done about 50000ks since changed by landrover dealer, I will probably just put up with it for now although it is a pretty loud noise, still I would like any feed back on what it might be Thanks Bruce

It is your spigot bush. They are sintered bronze and will make the noise you describe when getting a bit dry. Often this noise will happen in cold weather and go away once it warms up a bit. The bush may not have been replaced or correctly lubed when the clutch was done. You may find it goes away after awhile or it could get worse. If it gets worse you need to pull the box.

    Cheers

Thanks for that, Its alot of work for a bit of grease, Its a bit of a tricky noise cause when you let the clutch ride to make the noise with the hand brake on and the car not moving, then bring the revs up and down the buzzing noise doesn't change its pitch as I would suspect it would with the spigot bush, still stranger things have happened,

Its driveing me a little crazy might have to pull it apart,
    Thanks again

Yeah it is a big job for a bit of lubricant.
Grease may be the problem cause. The spiggot bush must be lubed by oil.
Sintered bushes are porous and when prepared properly, absorb and retain oil. If you use grease the effective life of the bush is shortened.

    cheers

It could also be the throw out bearing, I had one Melt as they are a plastic material on the case, it caused all sorts of noises.

If the spigot, then as mentioned soak in oil overnight.

To remove old spigot, fill the recess with grease and use a dowell the diameter of the inner bush, tap with hammer and out she slides

Could very dusty roads cause this issue?
