    Changing an airbag steering wheel

    Hi guys,

I've got a '97 D1, and the airbag steering wheel is pretty worn. I've managed to source another airbag steering wheel from another D1 (still in vehicle), and I'd like it to replace my crappy one.

Is this something I can safely do myself??

Does anyone have a resource or tips to perform such a replacement??

    Thanks in advance.

Um, workshop manual? Click the "shop" tag above and buy a RAVE manual on CD, explains most things...

As Bee said -You're going to need a workshop manual - it''s not hard but there are a couple of things to do otherwise your airbags won't work again. Pay attention to the 'snail' wiring connector. It's expensive to replace if you break it whilst replacing the steering wheel.

You will be able to do it yourself. No rocket science. Get yourself a manual. Disconnect the battery and wait some 15 min or so, take off the airbag module (Torx screws), disconnect the wiring, undo nut and carefully take off the steering wheel, be careful with the rotary wiring connector behind (secure it with tape, it's easily damaged), position replacement steering wheel on steering column and reverse the above procedure. Shouldn't take longer than about 20 min.
    Cheers
