2nd battery in engine bay, heat problem?bonnet vent?

Trying to make up my mind on position of 2nd battery for auxiliary power, the engine bay of my D2 seems the obvious choice, but I have been told the high temps. lower the life of the battery, in the obvious spot on the firewall , passenger side.If so ,would a bonnet vent/scoop in this area, much like those for top mounted intercooler vehicles, be the way to go.Anyone done it? I have read the threads of those who have removed the jack, and placed two batteries in that position.Better alternative?I intend to back the system up with a solar panel, eventually, but that's another question for another time. So many questions, so little time. Cheers, Bob.

Personally I don't it's that much hotter than where the main battery sits, the first battery I put in the engine bay lasted 4yrs.

The second battery has been there around 18mths now, still seems to be going fine.

I've draw up (but yet to make) a replacement for the original tray that will fit 2 yellow tops in the space and still hold the jack.

Mine's under the bonnet and is slightly larger than the tray that had been fitted
    Here is what I did...alien's d2
I was more concerned about exhaust heat than engine bay tempratures.
    Cheers, Kyle

Would love to know how your setup goes, I am concerned about the temp. from the exhaust and turbo as well, although it is interesting to hear batteries in that spot have lasted well. I have a " welltempered" temp. sensor monitoring coolant temp, and transfer case temp. [ the old t/c oil leak problem], when the oil leak is fixed, think I will put the sensor element in the turbo area and see what the temps get up to. Bob

It basically just an ally box made up just like the std one but expanded where you can. As the optimas are slightly shorter etc you can use the slightly extra length forward above the step in the std box. Plus the space at the back where the diesel ecu sits normally can be used. I cut apart a spare box so I'd have templates of the component sides and interior parts of the std box, just cut some plates to match them and weld together. Also allows the winch solenoid pack and traxide SC160 to fit inside and still use the original cover as well (that was my main criteria believe it or not).
