You may have bent the AFM vane unless you had a backfire protection flap in the pipe. You may also have damaged the gas/air mixer, I assume its one of those Impco model 200 things that some installers seem to love. You may also have blown a hose off the idle air control valve. Once you have fixed up those things you will need to look at plugs/leads/timing settings etc. Incorrect settings will often lead to backfires if the system hasn't been set up properly. If you can manage to post up pictures of the gas intake it would help.

The Lpg has been on the car for about a year. i drove about 100kms home earlier that day with no issues at all. ive purchased a workshop manual on disc and hope that will arrive soon.

im not very mechanically inclined so im guessing im gonna have to take it to the shop. can anyone recommend a great range rover classic mechanic in the melbourne area that wont bend me over?

G'Day and Welcome to the Forum!! I used to drive an LPG powered Ford Fairlane and occassionally it would backfire with a loud bang and blow the top off the air filter box. I was told it does this when it needs to be tuned!!!Whether that is true or not, I don't know but I am sure the mechanics on the Forum will be able to assist!!

Ausfree that sounded very similar to what happened to mine. im pretty sure the car does need a tune. but i have done searching on here and found that i possible have damaged the AFM .

Also when the bang happened i could smell alot of LPG. does anyone know what the Main circular part of the LPG system under the Bonnet is called? Mixer possibly

can a back fire Ruin this Part?

1. Probably. Is it in the air inlet to the engine?

Racv round tonigh connected up a hose from the lpg to the engine. apparently i over looked this. also the AFM had closed. with the help of a friend who also has a rangie we popped the AFM off and manually opened the valve. works better than b4!!
