Core plug removal
Hi all.
I have just discovered a leaking core plug in the side of my 2.6 motor
. What is the best way to remove the offending plug, and do I need to use any jointing/sealing compound when fitting the new one (Stag, Permatex non hardening, etc.)
Any advice appreciated.

There are a couple of ways of removing welsh plugs - from rough to technical. There is some consideration to be made in regard to where the plug is and what sort of tool you can get at it.
Rough: Hit the center with a screwdriver and puncture it, then lever it out.
Less rough: Tap one edge into the engine, grab the protruding edge and pull it out.
Sealant: A long time ago I did a couple on my 2.6 without sealant, and I've done other stuff with... I guess that some Stag wouldn;t hurt.
It helps to figure out how you are going to position the replacement plug square and at the right depth in the hole beforehand, as driving it in too far happens too easily.

Punched mine out with hammer and screwdriver, then fitted new ones with stag, after cleaning the treads with a thread file.
