On-board air compressors - Viair and clones

Just been looking around for an air compressor for on board mounting in a D2.

I'd been considering purchasing a viair 400H from the US but the recent plunge in the $AUS vs $US has made that option less attractive. The compressor and hose kit would come in at about $350 shipped, which is probably on par with the ARB offerings.

I've also come across an ebay seller who has compressors that look similar to the viair units but are significantly cheaper. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these pumps or the viairs.

I understand the bushranger pumps are rebadged viairs, and bushranger also distribute the viair compressors.

ADDED: Looking at the Bushranger compressors, the Viair 400H looks to be the same base unit as used in the Bushranger Auto Max and/or Max Air II with 72L/min claimed max airflow.

    cheers
    Paul

I dont know how much spare room you have under a D2 but have you considered an endless air remanufactured AC pump to fit on the front. They are about a zillion times more powerful (about 8FPM in the old language) will run as long as the engine is running and more robust.

I just bought a twin pack of Viair 400C for $320 with a pressure valve off a place in bayswater.
A single one was from memory approx $190
Yes it is the same as the bushranger ones. Bushranger told me they rebaged them and "tweaked" them a bit - probably means put stickers on !
The bushranger ones are warrantied for longer though

    Looks like a simple rebadge.

Didn't really bother chasing too hard, as the company you mention seems to stock on the "C" versions which are designed for filling air tanks, rather than the "H" version which is setup for direct inflation of tyres. They are charging $225 for a single 400C.

The quick fix was a Bushranger Black Max, which I'll get around to hard mounting. Not quite up to the performance of the 400 series compressors but should be ok for what I need.
