Thx, I have read just about every post on vacuum pumps but didn't find this one.

My vaccum pump reads between 15 and 20hg but the needle on the gauge goes up an down (shudders) between these two readings. Is that ok or must it remain constant on on reading?

AFAIK it's a piston style pump not rotary vane. (never had one apart)

If so, you'll get some pulsing.
