how the hell do you get 25Nm of torque on lower bolts Td5 inlet manifold...

When I undid the 10mil bolts on the manifold and the 13mil nuts, there didn't seem to be much tension on them...and the reason for this may now be apparent. The lower bolts are a bitch to get to, even with a uni joint, and I'm buggered if I can see how you would get the right angle with a torque wrench to be able to dial up anything like 25Nm. It's presumably therefore a bad idea to try to go for 25Nm on the top bolts as the tension should be matched as evenly as possible...even if below 25Nm (which it seems it has been for many years with no apparent problem...)
Always looking for creative new ways to get bogged... :whistling:

76 RR...sold coz fuel was expensive at 70c/l
    93 200 Tdi Disco...old faithful...sold to make way for...
    99 Td5 Disco ACE...nice drive...hopefully reliable...

When I did this recently, I undid the bolts that hold the fuel cooler so I could move it out the way a liitle (without disconnecting the hoses), then using a combination of extensions with my socket set (different combination for every nut) I was able to evenly tighten the nuts ( but not with a torque wrench), it just takes a heap of time!!

I seem to recall being able to get to most with the 1/4" torque wrench using various extensions and universal joint combinations.

An impact type uni joint and/or an assortment of wobble extensions work wonders.
