Couple of things to check, maybe you already have:

Are both thermo fans working??
Are the front and rear of the radiator clean and free from obstructions, I.E. Mud?? In order to properly check this, the radiator should come out.
Is the viscous fan operating correctly??

I'd be having a good look at the Viscous Fan. I went over my whole cooling system and still had problems when I slowed down or stopped. After replacing the Viscous Fan I was driving along when I heard load roaring sound and Sh't my self that something had failed. It obviously never worked while I had it. It turned out to be the Viscous Fan kicking in and no more Temp issues (touch wood). If your Viscous fan is working you should hear it coming on. Also try spinning it with your hand from cold, if I remember right it should spin freely for about 5 turns then start to tighten up.

Think you might have this backwards , when stone cold the first couple of turns will be harder , then it loosens up , then when it gets up to temp it will tighten again.

had the viscous fan replaced a while ago it was the first thing i checked since its the easiest and its all good

Yes I did get that backward now I think of it. That's why you hear it roar on startup then goes quiet as it frees up.

I'll fit the tm2 on sat and see how it goes

Driving around today itbwas sitting on 97-103deg on the tm2 and the temp gauge was on half, what's the operating range for disco v8's??

I bought one of these fenix radiators and it's been great. Very light and the build quality is very good. The temp gauge sits a few mill below half way and the tm2 gauge doesn't get over 81 deg. I've got mine bolted to the block. I've only done about a 100km on it so far but I'm happy with the performance so far.

I googled "alloy vs copper radiator" and this post popped up

I found it really interesting and it changed my mind about copper vs alloy.

One issue that is rarely mentioned is that aluminium is much weaker than alloy. I recall Ron Moon had his aftermarket alloy in his Nissan Patrol break off the lower mounts in darkest Africa.


While the Fenix is alluring, I think I will just have my current tanks recored once the time comes. My current core has now lasted 11 years with no problems but is looking sad now after being "planed" by the fan in deep water. I wonder whether an alloy would have resisted holing so well.

When I was in Saudi a lot of RRCs including mine had problems with the cores splitting from the end tanks from impacts , usually bottoming suspension. IMHO this would be much worse with alloy.

i put the sensor on one of the bolts that goes to the thermostat housing
