classic LSE softdash hand brake
hi,
minor problem has cropped up while repairing the centre console of my LSE softdash (probably the same as D2 in this respect). The cam on the ratchet for the handbrake handle won't reengage. Its almost like there should be a spring inside the handbrake lever....but there doesn't appear to be. Now the handbrake can't be "locked" on. Any ideas ?

Just went and had a look at the Disco handbrake that's in my woodshed, I'm pretty sure it's the same as the one in my own soft-dash. There doesn't appear to be a spring on the locking pawl itself, I think there's a compression spring under the release button, i.e. inside the handbrake lever like you say. I tried unscrewing the button but it doesn't seem to unscrew, I suspect you'll have to remove the pin that connects the button rod to the locking pawl, and withdraw the button and rod together.
