Talk to Ken from A & B transmissions in Dandenong, they are the ZF OEM repairer and he's also a Landrover nut and is up to date with anything and everything that Ashcrofts do.

I don't personally see the point to that much power for a touring rig but each to their own and the HP22 is capable of handling power but it does have to be built to do so.

Raggs on here has a Rangie with a modified 4HP22 and a LS1 in front of it so maybe talk to him about what he has had done, the thing he was last having trouble with when I was talking to him last was engine alignment not strength issues.

Biggest issue with the ZF is heat. Have rebuilt mine twice, rebuilt the torque converter to. Mine is a 22 with 24 internals. The clutch packs are as heavy duty as will fit. Last time it was done they were impressed with the fact I managed to totaly destroy the clutch packs and pressure plates. Now has a much bigger cooler also.

Hi all thanks for the replys i think my diffs will handle the power i've got 80 series and 6o series diffs under it with heavy duty axles and cv's.

In regards to the power i don't really see 200kw being too much two off my mates have got 200kw out of there patrols and there perfect i reckon anyway my oppinion:twisted:

I've already got a pretty big cooler on my auto with a 10 inch elec fan on it which keeps it pretty cool around the 80 to 100 mark!!!

Hi adam big lad disco,

Ive been down this track with a zf auto and with cost$$$$$$$ and you will eventually distroy sprags and clutch packs.

My combo is 383chevy supercharged, turbo 700 4l60. approx 250 rkws
I believe the GM box is the way to go and they can be built to 650-700hp. I have mine built to 650-700hp by a guy down on the Vic morington peninsula cost $2500 with low stall convertor. I have had no problems and it feels very strong especially under heavy acceleration. The only thing you have to do is make a adaptor to lt230 transfer case.

Get the VN-VP auto with no computer which you can use a vacuum switch to lock the torque convertor is 4th gear automatically (Summit Racing $70) and you can also lock the convertor in any gear by a toggle switch manually.

I did get one machined up its my own design.
One thing I had to do is grind back the transmission pan casing about halfway through to threaded hole on the corner to give clearance for tailshaft yoke. I also used a slightly smaller tail shaft uni I think it was out of old 79 classic. The pan doesn't leak and has been ok. This could put some people off but its fine.
Transfercase sits 55mm back from original position.

You are doing well on the temps then. I range fro 80 to 110 normally. 120 is my warning point these days.

@ tebone - Yes you do start frying the internals. I have been told there is not much more I can do with mine and have been to scared of cost to investigate different boxes. Think the waight of the 130 might be to much for it.
Friends want my to put the 3000 stallie back in it.

I have overhauled mine own zf 22 approx $450 with all new steel,friction plates, orings and gaskets. The trouble is no one will tell you there secrets. I put in extra friction and steel plates in each clutch packs to reduce clearances (stock standard approx 1-1/2mm play in each pack you want to get it to .2-.3mm).
I think the b/c clutch pack in the zf24hp is slightly bigger than the zf22. Also they use different sprags and slightly modify to fit this tranny. The area where no one tells you about is the valve body. Currently all the zf22 all change into the next clutch pack to slowly which makes all your steel/frictions plates slip which they wear out quicker. There is a mod they can do to increase oil pressure to the clutch packs to snap the plates in quicker but it will cost$$$ but doesn't take them long to do.

The zf is ok but with a heavy car, good hp or towing big loads don't invest in this box. Look at other boxes it will be cheaper in the long run.

PS. I not sure why you would put a hi stall in for street work.
But saying that I have heaps of torque to get off the line quick so thats why I went to low stall.
By the way I haven't got my GM box over 87degrees yet even with a could thrashing which I ran a large plate fin cooler not a tube cooler.
