The difflock switch
Ive got a problem with the difflock on the county (LT85 with LT230 tranfer). When i put the difflock lever to lock (left) and drive a few metres i would expect the difflock to engage and the warning light to come on. It doesn't. Ive. Che ked the wiring that's. Ok. I've removed the switch and tested that anc it's ok. I have two questions. The attached picture shows the ssitch. Q1 haw far in should the switch be screwed there's a locknut that seems to imply a height setting may be relevant. Q2 how can I confirm the difflock is engaging. Any other info would be great.

The difflock switch
You can adjust the depth of the switch, and that's what that nut is for.
Have you considered that the bulb might have blown on the dash.
You said you checked the wiring and it's ok.
You said you pulled the switch out and tested it to be working
But, Have you connected the switch to the wires and press it in with your fingers with power on the ignition? and see if the dash light comes on?
If you plug the switch into the loom and depress it - does the dash light come on?
To check CDL would require "locking it" then lifting the axles off the ground and checking rotation.
Start simple though - maybe the globe has gone!
Yep globe is good and the switch was checked connected up and finger pressed all ok. I also jacked all 4 weels off the ground but am confused with the results of wheel turning
Assuming you have open stock front diff (no Detroit, Tru Trac, or locked locker) engine off, jack up front right wheel with car in neutral, handbrake off and if turns completely with a little resistance the CDL is unlocked.
If it won't turn completely the CDL is locked. (Actually shouldn't make any difference being in neutral, handbrake on or off, that's just how I do it)

To check if the diff-lock is working:
1. Find a gravel surface and do a low speed turn on full-lock with the windows down. There should be nothing unusual in the noise the tyres make.
2. Engage diff-lock and repeat the manoeuvre; if the diff is locked, you should be able to hear the tyres scrubbing on the ground as they overcome the resistance of the gravel. An observer outside the car should be able to see the inside wheels slip and then grip. Don't try this on a non-slip surface as you might damage the transmission.
Cheers Charlie
Not necessarily. You might have to drop it off the jack and start the motor. Go slowly back and forth to engage / disengage the CDL.

Hi mate I don't know if this is any use to you but I had this problem after swapping form a 2.5NA to the 300tdi. Couldn't get the light to come on even though I knew diff was locked. Did all tests to switch, bulb and cables with no joy. I noticed that there was only one cable going to the switch so ran a cable from the second terminal to earth and the light came and off as I put diff lock in and out. Are there two wires going to the switch? I thought it earthed through the box casing but it obviously didn't. Might be worth looking at the wiring.
